Frankly, I'm thankful for this system. Think about it... if children could vote, retarded idiots who had way more children than they could afford would out-vote everyone else. And you could bet your ass they'd vote for people in favor of subsidies to morons who have too many children.

Extend that bad metaphor, think a little bit, and you'll have the reasons why it's a good idea that people under 18 can't vote.

(Also, as a side note, I see no problem with parents raising their children with their own value set. If the child is truly seeking a different way, they will question and find it. And if they don't, they're a mindless idiot either way).

I specifically opposed permanent bodily alterations without the child's assent, not all methods of raising the child.

Yes but since the "contract", giving it its freedom at 18, is entered in on at its birth, it should be able to sue you for any damages caused between the two points in time.

I foresee a future of mothers walking in public using the umbilical cord between them and their kids as a leash if only for the fact they considered it permanent bodily mutilation and wanted to give the kid, once 18, the choice of whether to cut it off or not.

As for the subject of kids and religion, I think that parents have the right to teach their kids about their beliefs, but they do not have the right to do what some religions do, which is insulate their children from the entire world so that they have no opportunity to question what they have been taught or to try and discover their own path.

Genital mutilation... for women, a big fat fucking NO, because I've seen tapes of what they do to those girls and it's fucking EVIL on the most fundamental level. For men... I'm still divided on this, actually, because there are pretty good logical and medical arguements on both sides.

No it's not, but if you enter a sales contract, and you cause damage to the item before it's ready for delivery the recipient, in this case the child receiving itself, could sue.

It would be the child needing to pay but since the child doesn't there technically is no sale.

Let's look at it this way:
Someone buys a car, but doesn't have a drivers license. So he or she lets you borrow this car until he or she does get his or her license. If you cause damage to the car, you're responsible for damaging someone else's property.

I've never questioned my circumcision before, but after seeing this thread, I looked up some information.

According to the Guide for Parents PDF, circumcision decreases the risk of:

-inflammation
-urinary tract infections
-penile cancer
-prostate cancer
-receiving STDs
-transmitting STDs
