Anybody here into any of the Space Empires series? The only games in the series that I like are 2 and 5.

It certainly would help if you told us something interesting beyond the fact that you like them. You don't see people around here devoting threads to the fact that they happen to like chocolate, do you?

Then make a thread about it. Personally, I have a deep and abiding interest in... stuff. Do you like... stuff?

Why make a thread about the many uses of chocolate if you do not know of anybody in the forum that likes chocolate?
I'm just looking for somebody to play against.

If you tell us more about it, you might get some of us intrested enough to try it out and play it.

I probably should have included this in the first post, I dunno what I was thinking, anyway...

It's a science fiction turn based strategy game (think Civilization but with spaceships). What's great about it is you get to design your own space crafts and use them. You start out on your home planet(s) as a civilization that has recently discovered space travel, you have to research technologies to get ahead of the game. Every ship/space station/vehicle you use must be designed by you (you still have to mine for resources and create food which are all done by building facilities on your planets, and you also have to watch your ship's fuel and ordinance, it's limited). The space battles are real time (I don't know how it works during multiplayer, I have never played a multiplayer game in SE5), it's been a while since I have played but I think the ships use their own AI in battle, but you can always take control of your ships if needed. It's not all about space battles, depending on the settings you set for game victory. Some other things you could do are espionage -anywhere from finding out information about other empires to taking control of enemy ships, creating riots on enemy planets, and more. You can build your empire and crush your foes, form alliances or enemies, be the best or become a footnote in another empire's history books.

If you like turn based games and micromanaging and having freedom to customize what you send into battle, you should try this game.

I haven't tried it in Vista yet, I'll be installing it on my Vista laptop soon.

Dunno, only played that game once, but at the time my attention span was much shorter.

How convenient, two of my biggest hobbies!
Don't do it, man! Nothing is worth that! Unless you're going to drop your computer off a cliff. In that case, I'd definitely upgrade to Vista. It will make it that much more satisfying.

This lappy was a gift, and it came with Vista, I tried switching to XP but it turns out that there are no XP drivers for my model. My old compy's specs suck (on board video card - no slots for upgrading on the motherboard, 248 RAM) the specs on this one are much better... but it's Vista, most of my games don't work T_T

Wow, that sucks. Now I have a reason to dread the future. I heard that Microsoft is going to release a new OS before too long, and that it's not going to suck like Vista. Then again, they probably didn't set out to make Vista suck too much, just enough to compel people to upgrade in a few years.

Make sure you disable User Account Control or you'll have windows popping up in your face like you're in the OS version of a porn shoot.

I happen to like Vista. I'm the only person on earth that does, but I do. I've had absolutely no issues with it.

I'm with Silvio on this one.

(Although Win98 will always be the standard I use to grade things)

98 was a pretty painless operating system.

    ...or at least, relatively painless.
