Sorry if this has been asked before but Arcanum won't work!

You mean the Omega Video drivers Darkfool was talking about or just download new drivers for my graphic card?

 

Go to the NVIDIA website and download and then install the latest drivers for your card.

 

Did that, same result, black screen and i need to reset

 

Does anyone know if there's a command you can add to Arcanum's launch perimeter to force it to not load the videos? (like a -v ) or something? I'm wondering if the issue is corrupted videos, or an inability to run them, for some reason.

 

I don't think there is a command for it, but you can either try hex editing the Arcanum.exe file to skip the videos (info in Drog's Engine Hacks thread), or if you don't know anything about that, just use this tool: Arcanum Hacker 1.2.1

The interface is simple. Just browse for your Arcanum.exe file and check 'No starting movies.'

Might be worth trying, plus, there's an amusing Drog/Crypton exchange in that thread.

No need for all of that work, gentlemen.
All you have to do is put this file in you Arcanum folder (made by Drog; it will prevent the Sierra and Troika opening videos from launching) and remove/relocate/rename your "Arcanum\modules\Arcanum\movies" folder (which will prevent all of the other videos from launching).

 

More power to you, Muro. Completely forgot that existed. Just have to wait and see if it helps any.

Aside:
I actually recall having the same thing happen a few times when I closed the game. Black screen and nothing happening, and ultimately I had to reset the computer. It doesn't really shed light on the situation, but it sounds like the same problem. We need someone with more technical knowledge of the game process itself, really.

 

Appreciate the help guys, but... put the file Muro linked into the Arcanum folder and renamed modules/movies, the black screen appeared faster but it still appeared :/
EDIT: afer reseting my comp again, i ran it in safe mode and Arcanum sort of worked, really slow and once i was in game talking to Virgil, couldn't see the terrain, i mean i could see my hp, mana and the conversations, but the rest was all black, still better then nothing hope that helps.

Sorg, it sounds to me like you've a conflict. After you finish logging on, what's the list of things that are running (check Task Manager), and how much of your cpu/ram is used while the system is "idling?"
