Thats her, she's called ohana26 or something like that in the game. I think I should make a rule like on the main CN forum. Your forum name must somehow reflect either your ruler name or your nation name.

Yes I agree, it was a bitch finding her nation as it has nothing to do with her GC name.

Well you could have just looked at the GC member roster.

So... DU's original post here was a copy of some GC post? And not Nocturne sneaking in to edit PM:s on the GC site?

I'm feeling the need to be extra-courteous to some fellow named Vorak just because I haven't a clue as to who might read the PM:s. And I do so want to swear once in a while, but the fear of Big Brother prevents me.

To get into someones Inbox is a task beyond Nocturne's skills. I suppose I know a way to do it, but it'd be pretty bloody obvious that I had.

Do you have access to the database? Like can you download a backup or something (I'm presuming you can't upload files to the server, in which case you'd upload phpMyAdmin)? If you can, it's not hard. Just open up the PM table and start reading.

Not that I'd know anything about that. No sirree.

It was in the GC Department of Defense. Which is GC members only but it wasn't a private message.

Um, DU, you linked to those guys' website, not the actual study/survey/whatever it was.
And what's with all this hate on Nocky, anyway? She's nice enough.

Well yeah DU, I could download a backup if I wasn't on pre paid internet, it'd cut off the download as soon as I ran out of credit. And I'm not even going to consider doing it on dialup.

And Silvara of course Noc is evil, she made everyone leave.

DB backup of the Council's only going to be a few meg. Maybe 2 - 5 at most. Terra-Arcanum's DB dump is still just under 40 meg and that includes 5 years of crap posted by you lot. GC's only been up for 3 months. That assumes you're downloading a gzip compressed file. Otherwise multiply that by three. I'm not sure how Invision Board does it but downloading a GZIP version should be an option or the default.

    Huh? Who linked what now?

Anyone feeling helpful enough to explain this crap to me?

I just started some forum just to learn how to handle the CPs for future reference, and it could be fun to see what happens...

    There's no backup option.

I suspect InvisionFree doesn't want to make it easy for people to leave, it wouldn't surprise me if they offer to give backups for 40 bucks. :p

Yeah you're right, no backup option at all.

Of course that explains why GATO had to start all over again when their forum got deleted.

    EDIT

I'll check with the ROOT account, perhaps you can only make a backup with that.

All options show up for all admins, but you get an error message if you try using them without root.

Not completly correct. Some emergency admins managed to salvage a lot during the last half hour or so before depraved's deletion. Still, it was lucky that so many people had also saved the bits they liked (pages, pictures) since that helped with the rebuilding.

The "backup site" was up and running within an hour, though much was sadly lost.

All would've been kept with a backup, so it does explain it.

Ditch InvisionFree and setup a phpBB forum on grey-council.net

Normally I'd say phpBB doesn't allow sub-forums but there are mods which do but in this case, I think the Grey Council should lose 90% of its confusing and hidden sub-sub-forums. A vanilla install of phpBB would be a nice excuse to turf them.
