for the next 7 months... he'll be patrolling streets in Ramadi, riding in an inadequately armored humvee with no air conditioning, forbidden to roll down the windows, wondering when he's gonna blow up... i hate bush.

Well, fish chose to join the army. It's not the president's fault that he feels like a fish out of water. After all, congress approved the war on Iraq.

But it is the president's fault that they are at war. I'm sorry, Rosie, focus on your curly beauty, we'll try to help. You can laugh at me if you want!

isn't it remarkable that the Amarican government has a huge amount of money stashed for use in warfare and knows how to spend it well and LARGE!!!.. but when it comes you offering assistance on your own ground (New Orleans) they can't even control anarchy?!?!?!

Am I too Dutch in saying that I don't understand how they show such EXTREME LACK of knowledge in how to deal with these problems.. let alone prevent them?

Funny (depends on how funny that could get) that now they're in deep shit, they actually need to get the Dutch 'delta workers' (Dikes and stuff for the illiterate) to fix the situation.
And meanwhile... an entiry huge city seems to be in a state of anarchy where it takes days to bury the dead and you see people plundering stores and roling out ENTIRE RACKS of products for their own benefit.

I don't mean to be rude to any amarican's here, don't get me wrong, but I had to agree with a friend of mine who described a mentality 'problem' that shows a clear difference between the mindset of Europeans and Amaricans.
If such a disaster struck a big European town the army would be on it the same day and everyone would clash together to stop things from getting worse... but above all that... we'd keep our head cool and tinker our way out of it rather than letting things fall to chaos and wait WAY too long before letting the emergency troops arrive.

Once again... this is not a personal attack to anyone on this forum ;)... it just illustrates a bit of frustration with some people's mindsets.
And don't anyone accuse me of being too patriotic about Europe or the Netherlands for that matter because frankly I usually distance myself from quite about anything that concers politics which don't affect me. :p

It's true that Bush isn't being very smart about the New Orleans thing (and, for that matter, the whole rebuilding of Iraq... I know it's supposed to be to keep terrorism from coming over here, but it doesn't seem like they're making any progress). It's almost certain that a Democrat (aka, a Liberal) will be next in line for presidency (*cough* Hilary Clinton *cough*).

I'm looking at a 12 month deployment coming up in about this time next year. However, I'm not blaming Bush. After all, I did sign up for it. And it takes more than one man to start a war, more than just the president of the United States. Blame naturally falls at his feet when the war doesn't go just exactly as people expected, when it drags out longer than people hoped, (This seems to be true whether the president be republican or democrat) and some of the blame certainly should fall at his feet, but not all. Bush singlehandedly started the war about as much as I singlehandedly elected him.

Now, let me just cast a fire resistance spell on myself, cause I have a feeling I'm about to get flamed.

    Congress never approved the war.

The war in Iraq was never a "war", it was a police action, which can occur for up to 30 days without congressional approval. Remember how Bush declared major combat operations in Iraq over? That was prior to the 30 day limit, and hence, he never needed congressional approval, regardless of the fact that there is still fighting going on.

Oh, and what the fuck is up guys? It's been awhile.

We've been holding our thumbs, desperately hoping for you to not return. Woe that our prayers were in vain and that the beast is now upon us!

Other than that, mostly chilling. And chocolate cake. Lots and lots of chocolate cake.

Yeah, and we've sent a Hercules plane with with water purification plants. They need all the help they can get down there.

one of the battalions here on base is ready to ship out to New Orleans in case they have to declare martial law because bush took 6 days to offer assistance to his own people. it continously amazes me how horrible my government is right now... it almost makes me want to move to another country...

Actually so far, it's going pretty much as I expected. A short term "victory" (major combat operations declared over) with a long term "loss" suffered after troops are pulled out (likely done under the guise of a "job finished") before a "civil war" in Iraq, leading to an eventual breaking up of the coutnry into several smaller pieces, each run by their own "religious faction" with an end result of "So what the fuck was that all about?". Alternatively, the United Nations (you know, those guys who didn't want us get involved in the first place) will become involved, civil war will be prevented but the country will ultimately be broken up. Or, theory three, the country is never broken up and instead an International "peace keeping" force is put in place indefinitely.

It might be more pertinent to clarify complaints against him with the rather vague "Bush Administration", rather than solely blaming Bush himself. While he didn't start the war himself, he certainly didn't stop the war and those around him didn't do much about that either.

Of course, as has been said, America isn't really at "war". After all, if you were, you'd have "prisoners of war" and not "enemy combatants" (whatever the hell they are). I just like how we've all learnt so little¹ from that whole Nazi regime thing a couple of decades ago.

¹Actually that should be how much we've learnt, given the fear and propoganda techniques being used. Most of which were developed and used during World War II by the Nazi's in some form or another. It's okay though, because you know, we are the "good guys".

Look out after yourself and get a fart pillow to use against those other in the humwee. Lightens any mood no matter how bad. And as an last instance you can fill it with petrol and turn it into a molotov coctail.

Well, I myself am not a fan of the War, or Bush, for that matter, but now I must raise a blade in his defense... Bush offered 62 Billion as well as supplies to New Orleans, and Louisiana as a whole, but the Gov. told'em all to stay out of Louisiana, because his people can take care of the state. He's turned the Red Cross away, and multiple other organizations. I hope he's found dead in his house. :)
