I'm actually impressed that the game has lived on... I live in Turkey, and most on the gaming community here plays "Counter Strike" or "Knights Online" and the occasional "WoW" and "DotA", that I always thought I was the only one who continued to remember this game. This month, the gaming maganize "LEVEL" here gave a free copy of Arcanum, so I tried searching up on the game for the nostalgia and here I am =o

Anyways, I curious to learn what this community is all about, since the game has been all out for quite some years.

Welcome to the forums, Metthew. You should download all the appliable patches, as well as Drog's new High Resolution Patch to enjoy the game to its fullest.

Welcome Metthew. Also, do not forget to play A: WIP 6.0 if you want to see some new and cool stuff in the game.

Will do them. Just went through installing the two patches from the CD, turns out LEVEL didn't forget to include "Drog's Unofficial Patch?".

Also, it seems that the World Builder works extremely sluggishly under Windows 7 (and probably under Windows Vista too). Any chance you people know why?

Hey, the even fully patched game works sluggishly on Vista for me. It's just an old game, I guess.

I was afraid that would be the answer.

Still, I'll try working Windows at lower resolutions and see if that does anything (Just tried the High Resolution patch and turns out it makes Arcanum run slow =( )

edit: Seems it doesn't work that way... Off to download that 1.070 WorldBuilder version I saw at the download section.

It works perfectly fine on 1,5GHz centrino laptop, 1024x768. I first played it on a Pentium 2 Celeron 500MHz /w 256MB RAM and it was a bit slow but playable. You're doing it wrong.

I have a 3.6 GHz Pentium 4 computer with a 512 MB Graphics Card, 1GB RAM. The game used to work nicely under Windows XP. It works sluggishly (seems the Worldbuilder AND the game) under "Windows 7".

I think this means I need to reinstall Windows XP sometime =(

Maybe because you're using new beta software and trying to play an old game with it? I can't help you there, but there are several posts in this forum regarding running Arcanum under XP and Vista. Search function is your friend!

Actually, Yuki, you get spankings. ^_^

Mett: I've RC1 of W7 on my work machine, so if I've a moment some night this week I'll fire it up and give it a go.

Also, Yuki, did you read my guide on getting Arcanum to run on Vista? I'm doing my best to keep it a living document, so if you can read it and let me know if anything does or doesn't help, I'd appreciate it. :)

Hmm... It seems that Arcanum can work under Windows 7 with the -doublebuffer extension people offered somewhere I found in search... but it doesn't work for the Worldbuilder. I'm also anticipating the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic and wanted to make an Old Republic mod for Arcanum, so this meant that I formatted the computer and reinstalled Windows XP...

The only thing that saddens me about that is this - I had to say goodbye to all my Chuck and How I Met Your Mother episodes I downloaded (We follow them a bit late here in Turkey, like a few episodes - I watch the old episodes still though)... *sniff*
