Vampire, at its finest, is much better than Arcanum.

    Good evening.

Am I to assume the finest moments of Arcanum can't compare to the finest of Vampire? In spite of my Good Morning, I'm left confused without the appropriate qualifier.

I concur, as an rpg - even with it's flaws - I find it pretty much beyond compare. It's also nice for an rpg to have distinct voice actors for 95% of it's characters (looking at you Elder Scrolls). It saddens me that, beyond using Steam, legal digital copies of Vampire are hard to come by so I can use it through a wineskin.

    Good evening.

Yes! I've just reinstalled it with the latest (9.0) unofficial patch and started a new playthrough. Santa Monica is perhaps the greatest level/area/hub (what's the correct term?) in gaming history. After almost 10 years, it has lost none of its charm.

Now I'm off to Hollywood! Good night in advance.

I hate that abandoned house. Only thing that stops me from doing another playthrough.

Well that was exciting - being a health conscious and generally well motivated person, I decided to have a Pot Noodle for lunch. I was slightly excited by the prospect actually, it being a riveting new flavour ("Brazilian BBQ Steak" - what could be more delicious? Naturally, it's suitable for vegetarians). However upon having only a couple of mouthfuls, a filamentous grass like thing that had much more friction in one direction decided to stick itself into one of the pits of my tonsils; the likelihood of it lodging itself into such a narrow pit so that it could actually get stuck, with all the random chaotic movement involved in chewing food and the fact it'd have to be in a very specific orientation, must be astronomically small - but I guess God loves me.

So I thought "it'll be okay, I'll suck on it for a bit and hopefully it'll come loose" - however because of the aforementioned seemingly greater friction of the fucker in one direction (I'm guessing it was some sort of spiny grass) it wasn't going anywhere. After remaining for three hours in this sorry state I decided enough was enough, something had to be done!

Being alone in the house I needed a light that was handsfree and strong enough to light up my mouth, having nothing that fit that description I decided to opt for a kindle light (surprisingly the brightest small light I have) and tie it to my face with a tape measure (a winning look on any self-respecting gentlemen). Of course the bit of tonsil the little bit of crap was lodged in wasn't visible, so I had to hook my right index finger into my mouth to expose it - and with the close proximity to to my gag reflex I was almost sick a couple of times. Then I had to use tweezers in my left hand to try and pinch it out - which was so fun, what with me being very much right-handed and the fact that my fingers had to be about an inch into my mouth around the middle of the tweezers to even get them to pinch at things.

Several painful nips of my tonsils later and after almost 20 minutes, behold:

I guess if I've learnt anything, it's that junk food is delicious.

    Good afternoon.

It was a sunny day in July when I played through that hotel last time and I STILL shiver when I think of it. Well played Troika, well played.

    Good night.

    Riveting story, Jobo.

Are you all referring to The Masquerade?

I haven't played it but now I will.

    Good morning.

It's Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines people are talking about rather than Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption ytzk - though I've heard the first is also pretty good.

The patch Ruda has linked to has two versions; a basic patch that is just bug fixes which I'd definitely install, and then a plus patch that has restored or extra content (it verges on a mod at some points, for example they only recently managed to find a way to put new areas into the game - and knowing Trokia cut a library level they put one in, but beyond a few items left in the game there's no evidence that it should have ever existed). It's usually a good idea to play the basic patch and then follow that up with the plus patch.

    Have fun, and good morning.

I have nothing to add, so I'll just share a clip of the best movie ever made and say good night.

    When the Raven flies?

It's my aunt's favourite but I didn't care much for it myself. Seriously, what's up with their choice of music? Got nothing against a good revenge story though.

I agree entirely. While the restored content is interesting, it's often poorly incorporated. In 9.0 they "restored" a drug stealing quest for Trip (Santa Monica pawnshop) but they had added no new dialogue just recycled old lines. This is pretty much the end result (from memory):
    PC: What's your name?
    T: They call me Trip.
PC: They call you Trip. Do you do drugs Trip? (added with patch)
T: No, sorry. (from the PC asking him if he sells guns)
PC: Are you sure? I tell you what. I'm gonna break into the local hospital and steal drugs for yo and then you give me a discount. Okay? (added with patch, as if it wasn't obvious)
T: Thanks, you new to Santa Monica? (from the player telling him it's a pleasure to meet him)
The mission itself is nothing new. The drugs are located in the same place as in earlier version, the difference being that they are a quest item now and can't be sold. Since most people usually sold them to Trip anyway (as he's the only shopkeeper this early in the game) the only thing added was the freaking reward (+1 Finance instead of whatever you could sell them for).

Restored drug stealing quest of Trip indeed! Other important fixes include "fixed tutorial door bug". At fucking last!! Joking aside, they've done great work, but maybe it's time they considered the project completed?

    Goodnight.

Good Morning! I must thank Ruda for getting me to think about VtMB, and resuming my current game.

However, I've hit a problem I've never seen before while playing - I'll get kicked to the desktop for no reason. The game is still running, but every few minutes I'm forced back to the desktop. I'm installing the unofficial patch to see if it'll change anything. It's pretty jarring when you're trying to feed...or do literally anything else.

    Re:

Yeah there's a lot of instances where it's pretty cack-handed - something that really grates on me is that they "restored" Jack's line in the tutorial dialogue "Err, why don't we step on out back here?" to which your character replies something along the lines of "We're already outside." Very obviously this line shouldn't be located here, or even if it was originally it was cut for a reason. It completely kills the flow of that opening dialogue just for the sake of "restoration". There's also several instances where you get stat boosts and bonus experience now where you didn't previously, and a lot of the clans got boosts to stats they didn't previously too - skewing the balance slightly. For the new library level they also recorded dialogue for Andrei, one of the main villains in the game, which sounds jarringly bad and really gives the plus patch that amateur "moddy" feel which it didn't have before.

At the same time, they restored the Dragon's Breath shotgun - a sawn-off shotgun that shoots phosphorus rounds - and the dialogue the accompanies it. It's for reasons like that that I'd install the plus patch every time, but I still wish wesp had put in a more tailored install like the UAP has.

Yeah I'd definitely recommend the basic patch and see if that fixes your problem, it has a lot of bug fixes in so hopefully it'll do the trick. If not I'd ask on their forums, they changed it to http://www.planetvampire.com/ rather than vampire planet like it used to be when the community was still on good terms with GameSpy.

    Good evening.

PS For all you Futurama fans Jack is voiced by Bender and Doctor Malcolm and Skelter are voiced by Hermes.

    Re: Re:

It worked. I'm just surprised it started happening. When I had reinstalled it I was getting a bug that said there wasn't enough memory to run it, and after fixing that issue I was getting kicked to the desktop without crashing. Even so, the game's worth it. Playing a Malkavian is my favorite, what with the color commentary from the voices in my head.

    Re:

    Damn you and your spoilers!

With that said, have you talked to sewer rats yet? Or the man in the TV?

I knew Jack was Bender, and Malcolm being Hermes is quite clear now that you've said it, but I'd never have guessed that he voiced Skelter as well.

You can actually understand the voices? Even with my speakers at highest volume I can't tell what they say. I think I heard "he's lying!" once when speaking with the prince, but nothing besides that. It's really creepy though.
