In their list of links, does anyone have any sites that cover more than 1 game? I'm not talking just sequels here either. I mean sites like through the looking glass that cover Thief, Thief 2, Deus Ex and a few others. I'm mainly looking at their design (I'm thinking about a few ideas for Terra Arcanum, going Greyhawk and Vampires). So does anyone have any linkage to sites like this? I want to see how they handle content for multiple games.
how about planet tribes? they cover tribes, tribes 2 and starsiege, but like this one i think you're going to find that with most of these sites they cover 2-4 games by the same company. your thief/thief2/deus ex one does, those were all ion storm games i believe, and are pretty similar in gameplay. Well, they're more of an all-around site, but you might want to look at rpgdot.com. They have devoted forums for several games from different companies, but in many ways, they're like any other rpg site. However, the forums are pretty good. I think there's Ultima, Arx, Neverwinter, BG, and a coupla others. I kknow it's not exactly what you want, but you may get some ideas.
How about The Adrenaline Vault or RPG Planet. Though these are sites devoted to a single genre of games or to games in general not just to a few chosen ones. IMO if you're going to rebuild TA try such an idea: default design is left as it is but then there're links to Greyhawk and Vampire sections with their own background, font and whatnot. Just don't add sound.
I like Dragoons Idea, and I think that you should leave the name of the main site TERRA ARCANUM it makes things really simple... and have likes to TERRA GRAYHAWK or whatever you name them.... I don't have links to any sites that go in-depth several games by different companies, but I do have a couple that go in-depth of a couple games by the same company, so if that'll help you lemme know and I'll post'em.
Thanks for the links so far. Planet Tribes is especially interesting. Of course I still need to wait for Jinxed to come back and give the "Official okay" before I can start some serious mucking around. At the moment, I'm just dreaming but... What, no sound!? Oh well... That's kind of what I had in mind actually. The current graphical style will be kept for the Arcanum section (colouring and motif), but it will need to be modified. I've played around with a few designs (I can't draw, so think 8 yr old with MS Paint playing pretend with squiggly lines) and the concept I have now is: "Terra Arcanum: The World of Troika Games" instead of "An Unofficial Arcanum Fan Site". There's nothing like saying "WE COVER THIS GAME" then having a fat link up the top, so three links (in appropriate font) to the 3 respective games are present. Each page has all the important links to the forum, news page and so on, but clicking on the game names changes the graphics of the layout (same layout, same positions, just different graphics and colouring) into the corresponding game. It will also open up a range of links that are specific to that game. At the moment, my thinking is that these links will be the same as the current Arcanum links (where you move the mouse over "the Station" and so on and get a bunch of new links appear). The reason for that being that there's simply too much Arcanum content to list in typical format down the page. Downside of all this is I need to find someone with marginal graphics abilities to pull this off. I'll also need to either learn php myself (to a high degree, which isn't likely) or rely on Calis (and a few other php code-monkeys I know) a fair bit to code the php basics (most of what I have in mind I've already seen a script for though). I basically want as much information as possible stored in a phpBB forum database so that it's easily accessible. The kind of setup I have for www.fanmadefallout.com where each of those pages is just HTML code posted in a topic in a hidden forum, Those tabs up the top are also generated from a "Config" post so I can change anything I want in a matter of seconds, without having to recode anything or upload a bunch of files. In short: - A new design making it clear that we cover three of Troika's games. - Easily updateable content so we can add/change/move things as easily as possible. - A CLEAN overall interface (I hate sites that bury people with a thousand links). The user needs to be able to drill down to what they want quickly and easily, without too much second-guessing or 'link reading'. The overall picture is almost like creating 3 sites in one. It'll take a while before it's up and running and it ain't gonna be easy, but it's certainly do-able and I feel like doing it. I am now letting you know that that would help.
Dark, how about Heaven Games? I've been lurking about their site for ages. Warning: They cover RTS games, so steel your nerves, die-hard RPG'ers. I registered there once, back in my omigodIloveAgeof Kings,it'sthefuckenbestgameever days. Love their site still though, now that I'm in a omigodIjustgotStronghold,it'sthebestfuckengame...... you know. Check 'em out.
I like that idea, so, dear boy, allow me to terrorize you with as many links as I can dig out of my dredgery of websites (god I'm tired... look at the wierd words I'm using!! ): Arundor's Abode, this is mainly downloadable items for multiple Black Isle games, though it may help... http://www.albedo.net/~cmohan/arundor/abode/index.html this man, in my opinion, is a god. he has created good things for most of the games on here (I've only looked at Arcanum, and are assuming the rest are as good as the on Arc) http://mikesrpgcenter.com/index.html this is a database on Dungeon Siege sites, but this, or some of the sites, may help http://dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Roleplaying/D/Dungeon_Siege/ this site has a minor problem: it's russian. but other than that it's a pretty good site covering multiple games http://www.playground.ru this sweatshirt is fitting considering what your thinking of doing http://www.jinxhackwear.com/scripts/details.asp?productID=103&affID=-1&catID=2&sale=False well, that's all I can provide you with for now DU, I hope that helps!!
Ex-cellent choi-suh. Maybe a little large scale, but a great site nevertheless. I'm still there . Moving on to AoM, though.
