When the settlers came to this country, they weren't "immigrants," they were a conquering people, and conquering peoples don't switch to the native language. Ask the Spaniards. You are being way to simplistic about this "immigrant" thing. An immigrant always should conform to certain aspects of the culture they are moving into, if only to survive and become productive. It just makes no sense to live and work in a country and not speak the dominant language. Okay, so maybe English is not the *official* language of the US, but it's definitely the most commonly spoken. Spanish is only really widely spoken in Florida and certain other border states, and there in only certain areas.

It seems to me that latin america is slowly conquering our society. How many spanish television networks, and radio stations are there?

    Jennifer Lopez? etc etc etc

Damnit, I hate the term "Latin America." What the fuck is "latin" about it? Nothing, that's what.

Now, it could just be my poor knowledge of American history, but weren't the people on the Mayflower and such fleeing religious persecution, and not trying to conquer anything? In which case, according to the above definition, they were immigrants looking for a new land to settle in.

And, if you go back far enough to root causes, most wars have had something in part to do with expansion, and by extension, immigration. So, in a sense, Icairus is correct that our ancestors, were, at some point, immigrants.

Chingue su madre would be a better word than bean eater. They like their fucking beans and thats why all they know is how to fart and, pack more than 50 people in a van. They don't like screwing their mother though so I think the first insult is better. Calling them cholos might work but some people are proud about their Aztec and Mayan origins so it might backfire.

Damn, woman, you trying to kill me? I just gave you sweet lovin, fifteen minutes ago!

    Why not?

They were immigrants. In the United States area, the white men came and moved in and stayed. They migrated to the area, they were therefore immigrants.

Exactly, the reason they continue to speak only spanish is because they do not need to learn English. The reason to learn English is to survive and become productive, they are managing to do that without learning English.
[sarcastic hyperbole]Perhaps they aren't immigrants, but a conquering people.[/sarcastic hyperbole]

They should define for themselves whether or not they need to learn this moronic language that we utilize on this FORUM.

Hey, hey, hey, hey! It's a forum, not a "board". Kindly use the correct word in future.

Thank you, have a nice day. :)

Okay, so to let the gato out of the bolsa, Chupamela is my roomate, he really is Hispanic, although Colombian, and everything he said was bullshit intended to inspire amusing discussion. I masterminded the plan, of course. Our extreme, unexplained enmity should have tipped you bastards off, but I guess ya'll just ain't that quick. Anyway, he's really a great guy and isn't all into the whole Angry Hispanic Motherfucker thing. When he gets back I'm sure he'll start posting like a rational human being again.

I add this to my reasoning for the "Sigurd should be next to get the whiny/spammy display/title" post. That's all. Have a nice day.

FOr all of you that think its ridiculous that someone hasn't learned a language after living here for 2 years or whatever, most of the ones who don't learn it don't have time. Its not like they're lazy. I worked with a guy who'd lived there for a year and a half, and could barely speak english because he had to work two fulltime jobs in order to take care of his family. One of these jobs was at a McDonald's at night, and the other job was with me at Arby's a mile up the road. I have no idea when he slept, or got to see his family.

Room-mate? Damn, here I was thinking Sigurd was doing an "Evil-Soul-Killer-Soup" thing that Three Dogs did.

Your IP address matches up with Chupamela on some of your posts.

Yeah, that's because we are in the same room, and he was using my computer when he posted those. I was actually thinking that one of you admins would think that we were the same person.

We've had some good and not-so-good experiences with double acts in the past. The one ThreeDogs did was definitely good though - had all the non-admins (i.e. everyone but Jinxed and Calis) going for a few days. Most other people get caught out pretty quickly. There was one notable exception to it being not humourous, but I think only a literal handful of people are still here from that and remember it(as in 4 or 5 at the most).

Funny that, hey? Being room mates an' all...

I noticed when I checked one of Chupamela's posts a while back. I failed to care though. That and at the time there was a small possibility you just happened to both be on the same ISP using dial-up.

Sleek, I would think of it more as society is becoming more PC, and stations want more latino viewers so they are making spanish channels. But spanish is far from becoming the dominant language.

I agree with Sigurd, if you move to a country, learn the dominant language, unless you INTEND to be poor, and discriminated against. If I went to Spain or Mexico, I would learn spanish as fast as possible, because in order to do anything remotely productive in those countries, I would need to know those languages.

If I was going to move, I'd learn the language before I went. Wait, I have moved, and I didn't learn the language before I went or while I was there. Hmmm....
