Just to commit the cardinal sin of posting on-topic:

I liked Shrek 2. It was pretty good.

Oh, and you all should see Shaun of the Dead.

Speaking of AFL, Essendon vs. West Coast (round three, I think) was one hell of a good match. Eight goals straight to the Bombers (yay) before West Coast even scored a point, then a nail-biting endgame, plus Hird played a blinder...fantastic match.

And while I'm on a roll, whose mark do we think was better? Moorcroft in 2000 (I think) or Sampi's this year? I vote Moorcroft's, for sheer height and power...Sampi got boosted by the pack...

    *Prepares for Union/League onslaught*

YOU ALL HAVE THE I.Q OF A CAN OF SOUP!

I rekon Sampi's was better because he used the pack to get the mark. Looks alot more violent.

I like AFL, but I don't follow it religiously. I remember when I lived in Melbourne, everyone in my class was trying to sway my allegiance to one team or another. I swear, with them it was a lifetime commitment, and I'm supposed to make this sort of decision on 5 minutes of "Hawthorn rules!" "Collingwood!" "Barrack for Geelong!" etc etc etc. Now, naturally, I am a Lions fan.

Also Sea Dog, I think you're thinking of Johnny Wilkinson, who plays rugby union, not rugby league. Cardinal sin to get them confused.

Please enlighten me, I know not the difference. Is it just a different league or are there different rules?

That's a pretty poor and un-enlightened quote :p . It's been ripped of another older quote. It's supposed to go
"Soccer is a gentlemen's game played by hoodlums and rugby is a hoodlum's sport played by gentlemen"

The differences between union and league are not exactly trivial. The same basic rules apply - no high tackles, can't pass forward, stay behind the kicker etc, but union has 2 more players per team, a different tackling/defensive system, greater tactical kicking, different interchange system etc.

A few players have made the switch from one to the other (or in the case of Andrew Walker, one to the other and then back again), but it always takes them awhile to adjust.

Fuck you all, cricket is a great game. Now that I think about it, I quite like most sports, especially the ones that are commonly played in Australia.

Cricket's pretty simple - a one dayer goes for one day. A Test match goes for five. In a one dayer, each team bowls up to 50 overs to the other. The object is to score as many runs as possible in those 50 overs. There's 11 players on each team, and as soon as 10 of them are out, that innings is over.

A test match is pretty much the same, but it's played over 5 days, and each team gets 2 innings, with no maximum over limit...except for a 90 overs a day limit, which gives a grand total of 450 possible overs bowled in 5 days. An over consists of 6 balls. There are various ways to get out - bowled, run out, stumped, caught and LBW (leg before wicket) are the standard ways. There are technicalities as well, which may also get you dismissed, but they very rarely occur.

Anything else you wanted to know about it?

Meh, when it comes to sports involving a bat and a ball, nothing on Earth could ever beat Brännboll. Speaking of which, I'm going to play in Brännbollsyran in Umeå, which is considered the World Championship of said sport on Saturday. Third year I do that. Not that our team has ever won an official match or anything, but man, it's so damn fun... much more fast paced than cricket and baseball, and void of all those complicated rules.

    I love it.

Oh well, since I know that things like this has to be explained for you heathenous outlanders... you're very lucky indeed, because I found a site in English that explains da rules.

so what does all that terminology mean? and what's an over? or a ball? give me something to imagine, here. do you hit a ball with a bat? or your hand? or what? i mean, come on, i'm an ignorant American. i've always wanted to know what the hell cricket is, but all we have is baseball. and if you've seen baseball, you know how disappointing that is.

You'll either love cricket or hate it. I love it. Most people I know hate it. I'll admit Tests can be boring (they go for around 6 hours a day, for up to five days...you can watch a bit, wander away for an hour then come back...), but One-Dayers can be bloody exciting. Semi-Final of the 1999 World Cup...mmm...

Okay...this is probably going to sound more complicated than it is, but....

Dear Allah....this is impossible. I'm off to find an encyclopaedia or something. [grumble] The American ones always get it wrong...[/grumble]
