I play WoW a bit myself, and while I'd agree that there are a ton of jerkholes present, there are also decent people as well. You just have to seek them out and play with them.

Similar to the real world, there are douchenozzles everywhere, you just have to find quality people to be friends with and hang out with.

And, personally, I don't mind paying 15 bucks a month to play a game I enjoy. 15 dollars a month, when taken in the grand scheme of the entertainment money I spend, is a non-significant number.

I remain cautiously optimistic about the movie, really. I found that I enjoy movies far more when I remain ignorant of the hype and simply see it with no expectations. I ruined the two Matrix sequels because I got so hyped up about them when I finally saw them nothing would have been good enough to meet my impossible expectations.

I have ever Uwe Boll movie. I kinda have a thing for terrible movies and he makes some fine awful movies.

TP: He didn't direct House of the Dead 2, but still horrible enough for me to own.

Not really sure 20+ emails is -that- elegant. On top of that, I think I'll get my client to do so twice a day for the next week. Or month, it was just too damned foul.

I don't mind MMOs, myself, as long as they do it right. WoW actually does maintain itself and expand upon its world (constant expansion of the world with patches, and not just expansion packs, being one of the key factors to why they're charging us $15 a month to play it). While I can't stand the gameplay, my father, at age 50, plays it, and is working on getting his fourth character to max level (or at least 70, I don't think he's hit 80 with anything yet). A couple around the corner who run the local Giant Tiger also play. So it's not really just twelve year olds who play (actually, it's typically not twelve year olds because they have no money. It generally ranges from 14 and up, and anyone younger than that are on their parents' accounts).

It's not really a horrible hateful thing, so much as it is that a lot of people jump on the prejudice bandwagon and scream about how much they play it when they haven't even played it (no offense, Muro). I can understand why someone who has played it wouldn't like it, though. The grind, while not as bad as the original MMOs (Everquest had something like two quests per level, and you had to group up just to kill basic monsters), is still awful at times. I made it up to a level 38 dwarf warrior, with my dad ganking me by mailing me his excess loot, before I decided I'd had enough.

I am guilty of playing City of Heroes, though, because of my strange obsession with superheroes. I'm thinking of giving Champions a go, as well, with all the faggotry that goes along with such a thing.

Your dad ganking you? Doesn't gank mean "attack someone with surprise factor when the person is not ready", "attack someone of lower character level" or "attack a single person with a player group". Why should you dad kill you repeatedly?

Or did you mean he twinked you? (Twink Char = Character which gets better loot from a higher level friend/main char to be better that the people in the same character level)

Note: Play SW:TOR when it comes out. That game will be "the game".

I played WOW from release until May of '08. I had lots of high level characters, was in the top Alliance raiding guild on my server, and was addicted to it. Until I realized how repetitive it all was and how little there really is to do in the game. Quest up to X level, grab the quests for the instance and run it, move on to next zone, repeat. Then at the end game it's do my dailies, scour the AH for deals, arenas/pvp if time, raid tonight. It's just a boring game that is very pretty to look at.

No offence taken, since I didn't yet start creaming about how much I play it.

Seriously, though. I don't spend half of my daily time writing on forums how I hate WoW, thew topic just came by and I shared my opinion on the subject. There is one difference you should notice, which will explain the hatred which you see as groundless. It's not saying that I hate WoW because it sucks as a game (I personally don't fancy MMO's in general, but a different thing right now), it's saying that I hate it because of how I am sick and tired of how I can't even move without hearing about it, when everywhere I look fandoms emerge out of nowhere and they keep talking about it aaall the time, being overjoyed with it and forcing my self to experience it. If everyone around would try to force you to eat chocolate cake, after some time you wouldn't even be able to think about it without nausea. I simply dislike people acting like a herd of sheep and my mind automatically dislikes the object of interest of that herd.

I only play WoW on pira...free servers. The noobfest and general stupidity of the audience there is so great it reaches entertainment levels. The remaining players are usually quite relaxed and not as bent on power leveling as I'd expect a guy paying for the time played would be.

I haven't played WoW in over a year now, it's not as addictive if you haven't spent a single penny on it. And it can be downloaded for free from official WoW sites, patched and made to work with less-official servers, no cracks or fixes needed. All of that more legal then not - game's free to download, the server time is what you pay for - and some servers are free. And the server code has been released as well IIRC, in an very early version.

So what do I like about WoW ? The world and the artwork, it's cartoonish and fantasy-like, rather then being gay like most other MMORPGs. Also the game balance makes all the character classes playable and useful, there still remain some that I haven't tried.

My brother plays WoW on such servers, but with every attempt to avoid being like my father, I prefer to pay for the official versions of things. Then there's my preference for less-cartoonish graphics.

Mesteut: Classic SWG, pre-NGE and so on, was the Star Wars game. My pessimism won't allow me to positively anticipate the next endeavour.

I can talk on for hours on how the combat system was screwed and unbalanced on that, with unhealable mind damage that made rifleman and combat medic uber, defense stackers, pokemon masters (Creature Handlers in Star Wars?!?) etc. Still, the game had the most complex crafting system + economical system ever made, as well as the social aspects of the game at that time can still be better than most of today's MMO's.

That, the community and just being in the Star Wars Universe made for a great game. SW:TOR will still be great though.

Darkfall was a game made by an relatively new company and was made with too many promises to keep. SW:TOR is made by Bioware (best "surviving" old school RPG makers), and has the financial support of EA/Lucasarts while also having autonomy on release date (think EA learned it after WAR).

DarkFall itself is a great game, with much good things.

They just couldn't get away from the grinding.

Lies. Only the landscapes was on a acceptable level. On, and ForumFall was also pretty good, once in a while.

Let's hope this rendition of the Star Wars universe isn't half as buggy as the first KotOR. Though I must admit, being able to glitch feats onto the Player Character and Jedi status onto other party members added to the experience.

(As a note, looking back at my last post, something horrible happened to my brain that made me change all sorts of random words. Damned.)

I'll judge SWTOR when I actually see it. All my RL friends who play games are raving about it at the moment, mostly because of KoTOR's reputation. What concerns me is that they keep using the line "Well, if it sucks, it'll be the first time Bioware has ever managed to do that". Interestingly, this ignores the fact that every game Blizzard made before WoW, I was madly in love with. I even have a copy of Lost Vikings for the SNES on the way to me in the mail (It should arrive in my post today!).

KoTOR wasn't my favorite game, though. Mostly because in both cases they tried to tell me how awesome the lightsaber battling was and looked, and then when I got into it I just clicked to attack with saber, and watched the two bash eachother in the face. With the occasional pirouette. I'm expecting the same out of SWTOR. Although, maybe since I don't expect them to even try this time, either, the disappointment won't weigh on my mind enough to detract from the other gameplay features.

I was actually impressed by the lightsaber battles. Then again, that's probably because I had absolutely no expectations before I played it. Either way, after a certain point I made a habit of spamming force lightning, so the one-on-one animations didn't make much of a difference.

For me, nothing before nor after Jedi Academy provided as much fun with lighsaber duels, so it's my personal champ in that category.

I spent the entire week getting the Schthack server version of PSO: Blue Burst working on my laptop. In my first hour playing, I was propositioned twice, invited to a threesome twice, had two high-level characters spawn into my low-character game and steal my EXP, and had a fucking SUPPRESSED GUN drop only to have someone log into my game, pipe down to the planet, and steal the fucker while I was busy with Sand Rappies.

Oh yes, and a FOmar asked me to marry him.

I'm in the process of uninstalling it now. No plot (especially one this fucking retarded) is worth this.

Back to Guild Wars for me.
