That is what I did. And. I had no time to properly search or create a difficult one.

Wow. How mature. Your parents must be really proud.

    Edit: Fixed Grammar.

It's the same thing: the second guy doesn't need to see the first guy's hat to see the third guy's one, which is what rules out the solutions without 'red' on the last guy's head.

Listing out the various RRW RWR etc combinations made me realize my missing link in the logic chain very quickly, I should have done that when I was first pondering the hat riddle.

That was a good one, TDC. The best riddles appear simple at first but in truth are deceptively complex.

This is somewhat similar to the Monty Hall problem, isn't it?

Two puppies and two possible sexes; this would give us four possibilities:

    1) First one is male, second is female.

    2) First one is female, second is male.

    3) Both are female.

    4) Both are male.

Possibility #3 is eliminated. Out of three remaining possible cases, only one has a second male in it. So, 2/3 chance that the second puppy is female?

EDIT: Yay for responding to this riddle before noticing that this thread was two pages long...

You've probably already seen this one:

    The beginning of eternity,
The end of time and space,
    The beginning of every end,
And the end of every place

    What am I?

    @Dark Elf: E.

As to the hat problem, I took their word that they couldn't peek and therefore must assume the red and white hats differ in touch and/or smell. Presumably a red hat would have a coarser grain due to heavy dye particles and/or a faint smell of the urine used to fix the dye.

As to the puppy problem, since the man washing the dogs answered yes with an exclamation mark and a smile, I'd say the implication is that both puppies are male. Although, given that this is a financial transaction, he may be lying; there may be two females and that's why he's shouting and smiling about it. Given human nature, the probable existence of any puppies at all is incalculable. Presumably the quantum field of their genitals would collapse into certainty upon observation... This is a sick riddle, sick!

Actually, the way I was told that riddle the first time, it appears complicated, but has a simpler solution. In the version I heard they are all allowed to speak at the same time - the king doesn't go around the room asking them in turn. So they each sit there staring at each others hats, and the first one to answer correctly wins.

After assigning letters to each of the unidentified gods, A, B, and C, you can ask a single question to one god with three conditions -

Does da mean yes if and only if you are True if and only if B is Random?

There's also a more complicated route with 8 paths.

He actually said 25%. Then it was reduced to 10% by people allegedly repeating him, and finally reduced to 2.5%.
