Bah! Capitalism is the WAVE of the future! Communism is dead. All former communist countries have adapted, gladly, to capitalism at the same rate at which they berate it. The socialists in the USA are so glad they no longer have to defend communism as a system and revel in the fact they can pick and choose from parts of the agenda in their quest for power. The new political definition of the future, years from now in historical wrtings on this period, will include the prefix "Corporate" in addition with other terms like "Dictatorship" and even "Democracy". Capitalism is the only economic power tool on the bench, the rest are all hand cranked by child labor. It is merely a tool. In the end, the quality of work it can produce depends solely on the skill and the character of those who weild it. On that note, I can hardly wait 30 years to hear about the "Corporate Pornacracy" under Clinton and the "Corporate Military Dictatorship" of Bush. I imagine by then all of our presidents will be hated on a universal level and we'll get to the point where we truly view corporations as individuals and elect General Electric to 2 terms of presidency under the campaign slogan of "Many talking heads are better than one".

 

My facts ARE straight. Get your facts straight. I said all FORMER communist countries. By that I meant where dialectic materialism was actualized in practice, not in peasant fantasies induced from cigar rolling hallucinations. In practice though, Cuba is not communist, for one thing, it lacks several institutions which have been common to industrialized communist states. At best, it was merely a protectorate and never reached the industrialized status necessary to supplant the burgeoise. Its just a post Batista dictatorship looking for handouts and someone to blame for the fact that they refuse to "pull themselves up by their own bootstraps".

EDIT - BTW, happy Pearl Harbor Day! In the US, we celebrate by going en masse to Sushi Bars, eating, then screaming "FOOD POISON" or getting really drunk and signing very badly to karoke.

Why, is there another kind of communism ? A kind that doesn't lack everything necessary for a modern, viable republic ? You know, like elections, separation of powers, constitution, rule of law, judicial review, freedom of any kind, rights of any kind, independent media, protection against the tyranny of the majority, viable monetary policy, et cetera.

No. Before Frigo, there was some sort of discussion, or at least flaming. The thread wasn't just people posting monologues agreeing with everybody else while touching nothing of what they quoted.
