I think it's more likely that the filmmakers felt they needed a few kung phooey "showcase" scenes for the trailers. Voila, Neo fights an army of Smiths.

I think everyone found the Neo fights Smith, lots of Smith scene to be too long. I thought it was good for a little while, but then I got to realizing that it was just going to go on and on and on. At that point, I just waited for it to end.

Well, I've seen the Matrix, the Matrix Reloaded and the Animatrix.

The Animatrix is really fucking bad, except for the last short story "Flight of the Osiris". I like how the stories help develop the world, but gee, bad anime short stories? No thank you. Everyone at the movie marathon was bitching about these out loud. Do NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT buy the DVD Animatrix. Rent it ONLY.

Matrix 2 was neat. Neo beat people up. That was cool. My complaints about why he doesn't do one thing over another etc.. Disappear out the window when you start to think about the inconsistencies within the story world itself. Especially when you've seen the Animatrix and know the reasons behind the whole machine war etc...

Care to post those reasons or a link to them for all those people out here who don't want to watch the Animatrix.

Basically, the reasons are that the whole story world and machine war makes little sense to begin with (we made them, they became aware, we tried to destroy them, big war, they didn't kill us all and instead used us as sources of energy, which makes little sense because we all need food to live etc... More food than what a bunch of reingested dead people would provide), so whether Neo can reach the door, or why he doesn't fly instead of senselessly beating Smith up, doesn't really matter anymore.

Kind of like "Eh, fuck it".

    Here's a review of them all: http://www.destroy-all-monsters.com/animatrix.shtml

This one sums up my feelings pretty much. Basically, a few of them are good stories, but for some reason, they just seemed overly boring in the movie cinema.

    I disagree.

I disagree. The Animatrix is an evocative, vivid short collection which not only compliments the movies but is also a work of art in its own right. Some of the biggest names in Anime were involved in its creation, so, if you don't like it, o' beefy one, it's because you have no class, not because it is... what was your so very imaginative description? "Really ^%$^$#$ bad"?

    Re: I disagree.

"Boring as hell" is how I put it, actually.
