I love martial arts movies, can't get enough of them. And I think some of the game programers out there are like me, too. Here are the proofs: In Arcanum, there is the Old Blind Master which uses an aerial decapitor. I have no doubt he is a direct homage to the cult-classic HK movie named "Master Of The Flying Guillotine" in which the old blind master dukes it out with the famous one-armed boxer. The aerial decapitor looks exactly like the flying guillotine, too. I was very pleasantly surprised when I see this old master. In Baldur's gate II, there is an item called Wong Fei Hung stone. Now that's another nod to the legendary chinese hero Wong Fei Hung. There was over 100 movies made about this guy!!! The most known is the Once upon a time in China. What I am babbling about is I love the fact that the programers put cool refences like that in their games, it makes me very happy and hope they will continue to do so.
Wong Fei Hung is also the main character in Drunken Master 2 (Played by Jackie Chan) That was a great film ! If only they made a game about it, Damn, It would Rock ! Welcome to the forum gunslinger-mage :wavey:
And there again we have a reference to a kung fu movie in a game - you're a DM Rane, so you should know that the Drunken Master is a prestige class in 3rd Edition D&D. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp? ... x20010105d A warrior that fights best intoxicated... unplausible, but also quite catchy
Erm... Dark Elf what do you mean by DM (look upon me as a n00b) The DM after my signiture satnds for Dark Minds/Demolishers/Dirty Money/DubMasters - its the london Graffiti cru i'm in (you could call it a real life clan) and we go around doin graffiti and stuff (but we only do legal, good quality graffiti, like only in areas the council have allocated for us) and Rane is my tag. So on a wall you would probably see Rane DM ... feel free to visit www.dubmasters.tk ... our home page.
DM is an abbreviation for Dungeon Master (if you know anything about D&D, then you know that it's the DM that tells the whole tale and plays all the bad guys). You earlier had "Life is too short to follow rules" in your sig, so I thought you were a rather permissive Dungeon Master . Sorry, my bad.
There is a related style called Drunken Monkey. Big difference, you only appear to be drunk. An old friend from my beatnick days became the #1 practitioner of the style in the states sometime in the '70s or 80s.
The Drunken Monkey fighting style was also included in Drunken Master 2. But only for about a minute or so .... The film was mainly about Kung Fu and Drunken Boxing. Great film, you guys gotta see it (if you already haven't)
Rane, did someone in that film name the style or are you good enough to spot the difference? :-o  I have never been good enough to spot the differences in those two. One of the Shaw brother's films features a Drunken Master. I wish I could remember the name. All their films are great, & often funny as hell even with the totally laughable dubbing.
Wait...by Drnken Master 2, do you guys refer to "Legend of Drunken Master"? That's the only one I know of with Jackie Chan in it...
Shadygrove in answer to your question, in the film Jackie Chan does mention Drunken Monkey but you kinda have to tell for yourself when he switches from Kung Fu to Drunken Boxing. Also, the ending boss guy has some kick-ass Tae Kwon Do skills ... The reason I can distinguish between fight styles is because I used to practise the Muay Thai - kick boxing style, now I've started practising the Xen Yen - Kung Fu fighting style. (Forgive me if I sound like I'm bragging ) Settler, yes Drunken Master 2 is aka The Legend of The Druken Master, they re-named it because the first Drunken Master was a low-budget chinese martial arts flik, with hardly what you could call a "story-line". So they decided to make a second one, The Legend of The Drunken Master, improved, better cast, more fight scenes, better fight scenes and the film all in all is much more funnier Also, I just noticed one of Wong Fei Hung's (Played by Jakie Chan) good freinds in the film is Si Lee Foo (Played by Xu Ping Chowun). In real life Si Lee Foo was Wong Fei Hung's apprentice in martial arts study ...
