REFERENCE: M1 chests (crashsite+ mine)

I found out that the crash site and the Bessie Toone Mine magic chests are known as M1 chests. I found the file that the game uses to place items to fill them. This means that people who say you can get Arcane helms and armor from them are just blowing smoke. There doesn't seem to be an early M2 chest, but there is one in Dernholm castle. Anyway, I can't see someone restarting and changing their character's race/name/background because the Dernholm one disappoints. I didn't bother with M3 chests - basically it's everything else that's not hexed or deliberately placed.

Interesting.......I never did see any of those amazing arcane items in that starter chest regardless of what my character's name was. Nice to know there's proof out there.

 

If one of the developers had the code for barrel formation, he or someone might be able to make a name/race/background treasure generator. Of course I suspect it takes into account the map name and coordiantes, because the two symmetrical (M3?) chests in the void have identical contents, but the third does not.

 

I don't know about that, I could have absolutely sworn I got Arcane Robes once in that Crash-site chest, guarded by that large Kite. It was forever-ago though so I might be wrong. I certainly don't remember every getting any other Arcane item. It might have just been a charmed or magick item, I suppose.
