I now have six reasons why I don't drink. The other five are mentioned here, but reason number six is this: I got a call at 2:00 in the morning on friday from my girlfriend. She said that my friend Hannah Winchester had been killed in a car accident. She was fast asleep (and sober) in the passenger side when her dickwad drunk boyfriend decided to crash into a pole doing 80 mph. That cock sucker didn't even buckle her in. When the paramedics got there, they didn't have to pull her from the car, because she had been thrown through the windshield. He went to the hospital with some minor injuries, and she went to the morgue. She was only 18 years old.

I think that's more of a reason to drink. The one who drank survived and the sober one died. Choosing to drink I don't risk to cause anyone the grief that comes with killing someone innocent.

Sorry about your friend jungle japes. I certainly hope the bastard will be prosecuted. Drunk driving is never a good thing.

But, why did hannah step into a car, with a drunk driver, and fall asleep? If I were sober i would never let a drunk buddy drive. I think hannah could have taken some more responsibility about her life and her boyfriend.

*EDIT* there is too many holes in that explanation of yours. Give me a link that show some info about the car crash.

Oh believe me, just about everyone who knew her would agree that Hannah could have made some better choices with her life, but she wasn't stupid. I don't know why she got in the car with him. Unfortunately, I'm stuck here on this bloody island in Hawaii and was unable to go to the funeral. I'm sure I could have learned more of the specifics, but for now all I know is what I've been told over the phone, so I'm sorry if my account of what happened is a bit incomplete. Oh, and the guy is being charged with vehicular man-slaughter.

Drunk drivers disgust me. Drink or drive. Simple concept.

    Sorry, JunJay.

I may sound naive, but I think she trusted his boyfriend, and that's why she died.

Most likely. I drink, I smoke pot etc, I'm exposed to that rationale quite frequently. "Oh, so and so is a good driver, and he's only had 1 or 2 drinks."

It's flawed logic unfortunately, as I'm sure her boyfriend was a "good driver" and could "handle his liquor."

What's really tragic about the whole thing is that her mother has now lost her husband and a daughter to drunk drivers. Her father was killed in an accident about 15 years ago.

Do you have anything against getting smashed at home? i.e. not driving?

If she was sober, why didn't *she* drive?

His survival is more to do with the fact that the driver's seat is the safest place to be in an accident.

And drinking made him smart enough to choose it. If he too had been sober maybe he too would have sat in the passenger seat and died.

While you are correct, it's been statistically shown that drunk people are the most likely to survive car accidents. There is a story my friend shared with me about it. He was in the city outside a bar just hanging out, having a cigarette. This completely wasted motherfucker coming ambling up towards the bar he's standing near. He gets hit by a car crossing the street. The car stops, doesn't run him over, just throws him like ten feet. Guy gets up, curses out the driver, and stumbles into the bar.

Alcohol relaxes the muscles and mind to the point of not reacting to threats, which is the best was to survive a blunt force impact. If your body is completely limp the impact deals marginal damage and just moves your body along with it. Another example is with babies who have not yet developed the instinctual tensing response when they believe they are going to be hit. Babies of such a young age, while not physically powerful, have been known to survive astonishing impacts due to the fact the limpness of their bodies cushioned the force.

You stooped to drinking some time ago? What drove you to this point? But yea, Blinky has a good point... if you're going to do something dumb, like jump into traffic, be sure to do it drunk so you're more likely to survive. Or, if you're trying to kill babies, use something sharp. Squishyness doesn't help against sharp things. ^_^

I'd like to conduct research on that one. Anyone have some babies they're willing to donate to science? Rosie? Come on, you can always make more if you want.

You're so full of shit Blinky. Everyone knows it's the oil that cushions impacts on babies.

Yup, and it also enlarges their heads to make them incapable of walking. It's all really a nifty defense mechanism for avoiding being put to labour, that's why the oil has to be harvested to maximize profits.
