I create a character, watch the little movies, or skip using ESC, a little clock is shown spinning, and it quits to the desktop, please help me sort this out.I've tried deleting the maps folder, I've tried replacing .DAT files and I've tried removing the movies.
You installed the official patch? You're not running anything else in the background that isn't absolutely needed by your operating system? Your video systems match those displayed under the Options menu?
Hi, welcome aboard. Sorry to hear you can't even start the game. Things to try. Defrag your hard disk. Uninstall & reinstall or run the repair option from the install disk. Download & install the patch. If you are running more than one hard disk, or a partitioned hard disk, be sure that the patch is aimed at the same drive as the game is on. Use task mangler (that cntrl alt delete thing) to shut off everything except for explorer, systray & your video drivers. Upgrade your motherboard & video drivers to the latest version. If you have downloaded Microsoft's latest patch for Direct X 9, uninstall Direct X completly & reinstall 9. If you have Direct X 8.anything, or an unmodified copy of 9, no worries at all. Hope you can get it fixed, the game is great. Have fun.
You know, I had the exact same problem. I'd got my new computer and the first thing I did was installing Arcanum - bang! The same things that happens to you now, happened to me. I tried everything - I even reinstalled Windows a few times. Tried downloading all the latest drivers/patches/you name it, but to no avail. However, as strange and weird as it may sound, the problems didn't go away before I fixed some better cooling for the processor. If you're getting constant bluescreens every now and then, and especially if you're running an AMD on a MSI motherboard, you might have a processor going too warm. Of course, it could be something completely different. I'm just speaking from my own experiences.
Oh, thanks. I've installed the latest patch, although I updated my direct X recently so that I was up to date, so I'll look into that one. No, my processer is cooled pretty well, and I haven't had heat trouble since a couple of summers ago. I'll try defragging and if it comes to it, reinstalling. And as soon as I can get back on my main computer, I'll try running with nothing in the background. Also, does anyone know, and I'm aware this is illegal to ask, a way I can run it without the CD? My laptop is much better than my desktop (excluding graphics card) but it's a tablet, and I have an external CD-Drive that the Firmware on the CD conflicts with, anyways... Thanks for all the input.
DE, I owe you massively, I'm running an AMD, and have a good number of blue-screens.... so what's the best cooling system to upgrade to? anyone know any good sites?
Matt, you live in North Bend you said, mere miles from Belevue & all those high tech computer shops. Two local computer rags, you know print resources, carry all the adds from all the shops. They are available on street corners. If you cannot yet drive, there is bus service. If you want to have the coolest machine on the block, go H2O. One of the Ziff Davis rags recently reviewed CPU fans. Look on their website.
Booyeah! Thankyou everybody, it now works on my desktop computer. But, if anyone knows, I'd still be very interested in a solution to the problem with my Tablets external drive not being compatable with the Firmware.
I think not. Every man and his dog is going water cooling these days, with all those pre-made kits. Besides, for most of those systems it isn't much of an improvement. The way I see it, there are two options: 1. Load your case up with fans, ala me. I have 5 in there, not counting the PSU one. It's loud as hell, but that doesn't bother me, and my computer stays nice and cool all year round. 2. This is the expensive option, but do it right and you'll get temps of around -50 degrees Celsius. What am I talking about? Peltier cooling, of course, the most expensive but most effective method of cooling. These set ups are pretty rare, because it'll set you back around $1000AUD, which is around $650USD these days. As for CPU fans, the Spire Rock Falcon II is probably the best around...or was a couple of months ago. It's cheap, and it's very effective. I think there's an upgraded model around, but for it's price it's really good. If you're really into cooling, but can't afford peltier cooling, you'll want an all copper heatsink and a nice fan. You do have to buy them separately, but it's the best non-water/peltier cooling option around. The SRFII is a heat sink/fan combo (which is the el cheapo option) but I'd be happy using. Only do the all copper heatsink option if you're into overclocking.
No Jar, I meant cool not cold. H2O colling gets the temp down in tests, but it is the latest thing, & every kid wants some. Be the first on your block & you are cool even if there is only a 5 degrees Celsius drop in temp. Peltier cooling is even cooler, both usages, but is still a water system. The Peltier junction gets cold on one side & quite hot on the other. Water is the easiest way to get that heat outside of the case.
