Hello everyone, Im not sure if many people still use this forum but I just got around to using it and have searched the Internet and many posts looking to see if there where any answers to my question. I have not really found anything that has been helpful, so I was hoping that maybe someone here could help me out. I just starting playing arcanum recently and was wondering a few things.

I was wondering if there where any alternate endings besides fighting kerrgan? My friend told me one time that he fought Elder Joachim and beat the game that way? Im not sure if he was right or not but I was wondering how many different endings there are.

The second was I usually play a magic character but this time I was thinking of using a technological character. Because of that I was wondering if there is anyway I can resist spells like disintegrate, ect. Because something like that could just obliterate me and there is nothing I can do. But according to the manual it can be resist by cn-5. Im not to sure what stat - or + means or how it works. If someone could help me out on that I would be thankful.

And my final question that I cant seem to find anywhere is this, how much does persuasion and intelligence affect dialog options? I would really like to know because I was thinking about putting 2 or so points into persuasion if it was worth it, but Im not sure how much 1 more point to make it 3 would make a difference or if 1 point in the skill would even matter. And as far as intelligence goes I dont know at what point it would really start to make a difference. If anyone knows how these two things work then I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Also I was wondering what differences there would be on hard mode over normal mode, because last time I played I seem to have found the game a little to easy and was wondering how much harder it would be and what kind of differences it would make.

I also have my character sheet if anyone wants to know what I have so far, or has any suggestions for it. Thanks again.

I also had not found difference between modes, but coming to Kerghan is an inevitable end.

    Thanks

Thanks you guys for replying to my post so quickly. The biggest question I have is about the magic thing. I still really wonder if there is anything I can do about it. I can kind of guess at the other 2 but that one I just dont know much about. I believe I've seen somewhere where someone said that the save for disintegrate dose not work, but Im wondering if the patch fixes that? I really would like to find an answer for that, so any help is appreciated. Again thanks.

I understand that but I have a lan connection set up so me and my bothers can play, so I was wondering if the saving throw works and how it works, or if I needed a patch for it to work, or if it even worked at all, thanks.

I think that if you have a tech apt. larger than 80, you'll resist most spells.

    Thanks

Thank you but are you sure about that? Wouldn't it be the same for magic against technology? I sill wish someone here could explain how something like cn-5 works or cn+10 or something like that the manual does not really explain that. But I do know what saving throws are, just not how something like stat - or + works. If anyone could help me out on that I would appreciate it.

Just to point it out, there is a third ending, in which you persuade Kerghan to surrender and get killed by the Vendigroth device. If you wonder how, here's the way to do it.
You need Arronax, and 20 intelligence, charisma and you need to be master of persuasion. No kidding.
When you've listened to Kerghans story, tell him that you're intrested, but don't agree just yet. Arronax will ask you if you're insane, but then you can tell him that you think you can persuade Kerghan.

From here, it's easy. Just choose the right options of dialogue, and you'll be fine.

    About the cn thing:
High willpower will defleckt any spell that concerns mind damaging or controlling. The cn defleckts any spell that concerns damage to the body.
    And there you got it.

Thanks Im just wondering one last thing. Is it true that you can beat the game by killing Elder Joachim? And also still ... what does something like CN-5 mean, sense know one seems to know, Im guessing that if Im within 5 stat points of the casters same stat, in this case CN would mean that it is resisted and dose not work, for example he had 20 CN and I had 15 would it fail to work on me, but if I had one less stat point in that it would work on me? Because many spells have something like that but I just wish to know how it works. And I know that high enough will power will prevent any spell that is affect by it from working if it is at 20. But I still wonder if anyone can give me an answer to these two questions, especially the ladder because know one seems to know the answer to these questions. Thank you.

Actually, I've got no idea. I've been able to kill just about everything with disintegrate. I don't think you can survive it, other than with 95% resistance...

I've killed Joachim several times, and no, the game doesn't end when you kill him. He only appears as a foe if you and Virgil turn evil and travel to Caladon. He then tries to block your way, telling you to become good again, but you can choose to refuse.
    He then attacks you.
Funny thing is that he's much more powerful than Arronax, Nasrudin or even Kerghan. Most likely to be the most powerful foe in the game, next to Stringy Pete...

The difficulty settings affect the encounter frequency and the xp rate. Harder levels equal more encounters and less experience per encounter.

10 Intelligence gets you the more positive dialogue options. That's really a moot point, however, as to learn schematics you need a requisite intelligence score. Any advanced schematics require an Int higher than 10.

Persuasion helps quite a bit in terms of dialogue, and yes, even one point has some effect.

Disintegrate is the bane of tech characters. Techies automatically resist lower level spells. Disintegrate, however, is powerful enough to affect them. If you're hit with a disintegrate in multiplayer, do not save. Doing so will effectively destroy your saved character.
