this is the story - i have a character (dwarf)that reached level 30. i learned everything in smithy and i also bought some schematics for the same skill. i have an intelligence of 19, strength 11, dexterity 14. now i want to create a pyrotechnic axe - i have needed components but i lack the skill (so it says ) what do i need to be able to create it ?
I don't know how much skill you need but sometimes helps buy tech manual in tarant for this discipline (in uneversity district). Those manuals can add few skill points necessary for making items .... or you must advance to next level and learn some degree of this tech discipline
*Small spoilers so consider this a small warning* These are hard posts to write, but at least you found how to access the found schematics so that is a bigger start than most. Please bear with me. Open up the schematic. Where you see the ingredients needed there should be a symbol and a number. The symbols are an anvil for smithy and a bomb for explosives. That number is the number of expertise in that discipline needed to make the item. Now open your character sheet and look at the disciplines the schematic need in your case, smithy and explosives. There should be a blue number in the upper right of the tech discipline. For smithy if you have all the degrees then the number is 100, for explosives it will be less than the number on the schematic. If you have no explosives the number will be 0. You can raise the level of expertise (the blue number) by either putting CP's in that discipline or by buying tech manuals in that discipline. Tech manuals raise your expertise an amount based on your intelligence, there is an equation the game uses but I do not know the exact numbers. You can buy more than one and they will stack. I would buy one and see what it does, any more will raise it buy the same amount until you reach 100. To use the tech manual you just need it in you inventory. They are very heavy, so when you are not building something, you may want find yourself an empty/un-owned chest to store them. Or if you prefer you can empty yourself an owned/found chest for storage.
thanx for the reply guys , but ... i like to believe that i am no idiot - i have finished many rpg's and i never use cheats. I don't have the game manual so some info might be unkown to me. i was asking this because this is the second time i play it - i got stuck in the first one at level 45 ( yuck - killed someone i shouldn't have killed  ). in the previous game i created that axe when i was level 9 so i didn't have the high skills that i do now. This time i even bought smithy manual and i still get the same message. it is kinda wierd if you ask me. Anyway guys thanx for the help.
haha what an idiot i can be [more] i figured it out. to create that damn axe i need an expertise level in bombs also. and i had none. the point is that i couldn't figure what's with the numbers next to the symbols, but thanx to you guys now i got it. Jesus i am almost ashamed - i should have realised it easily. guys i will come here from now on maybe we can excyhange some info that will make the game even more fun - i am not interested in cheats - only idiots need them to finish a game. cheers guys I SALUTE YOU !
ehhhh i don't have the manual because i can't afford to buy the game. I live in Romania so the game is worth almost one month salary . never mind that ... let's get back to the game. I found there are several ways to accomplish things in Arcanum. For example i discovered three ways to pass the thieves in Shrouded Hills - you can pay them 1.000 - yuck , or you can kill them - my favourite, or you can destroy the materials for the second bridge and then they will grant you the key and also the information about the UnderGround. Something else - Gilbert Bates - you can either kill him - and if you do someone will appear and offer to sell you Gilbert Estate for 100.000 or you can get his jurnal first and then alk to him and you don't need to kill him at all. The suit white thing i believe it's already known ( wear a white suit and no one will atack you in Gilbert Residence) . I wonder what happens if you buy the house. I couldn't afford the money so i do not know. There are other interesting things in the game too - i am now in Caladon at level 39.
People here convinced me on buying the original game. Look at my first posts. Maybe you'll be convinced too.
I do realize that Eastern Europe is a different culture with a different economy but there is one thing I never get, people who say things like, they had to get the illegal version because it is too expensive. Now in the States Arcanum was around $50 brand new. A computer to run Arcanum costs on average $1000-$1500 so to convert to your terms. If Arcanum is 1 month’s salary then a computer is between: 1 year 8 months and 2 years and 6 months salary. (1.66 years and 2.5 years) What I would like to know is how can you afford the computer and not the game. Are games more expensive relative to computers there? I did these calculations with simple math, and I really don't see how it would be logical that you can’t afford a game when the computer costs 20-30 times more than the game. I would like to thank anyone in advance who can convince me that their economy, or anything else, is so different that it seems this is a logical course of action. _________________ My love winks, she does not bother, She knows too much to argue or to judge. - Bob Dylan [ This Message was edited by: colonel_mortimer on 2001-11-10 00:48 ]
Everyone carries computer parts, no matter where you live. Usually they are pretty cheap. I think he's saying that the cost of IMPORTING the game is worth one month's salary. He may also have a really bad paying job.
That is if he is working but what if he isn't? Comparing to here, we get cheap computers here sometimes even free? That's how poor this country is when it comes to economy.
guys guys - chill out it is hard to realise if it's difficult or not unless you actually live here. For your information i managed to buy my computer - amd k6-2 400 , 196 mb ram and payed for it 145 $. Not many ppl can afford to pay 1000 $ for a computer. I came here to have some fun and i don't need this bullshit. Whatever i do for a living it's my problem not yours. And if it's such a problem than excuse me for disturbing you. you won't see me here again.
Wow...that was out of the blue... You really shouldn't leave because one person made some comments that you didn't like - although, who was it that offended you? Don't let one person (even if it's me) wreck you're fun...there's bound to be at least one good reason to keep reading and posting at this forum...
*Mortimer feels like shit* ************Please read this if by some chance you make it back here, Eidolon********* What the hell just happened? This is a forum, you ask questions on a forum. All I wanted was a question answered. I even said I knew it was a different culture. I wanted to learn a little more about his culture and why he could buy a computer and then could not afford the games. Here in the States if I would buy a computer for $1000+, but could not afford games then that just would not make sense. I figured there had to be something very different about his and other countries where I have heard similar comments from people. I don't know if anyone reads my sig but I did not pick it to be "cool". I picked it because that is the philosophy I live by. I was not judging you or anyone. I am very sorry if you took it the wrong way. If you or anyone can spot where I could have said something offensive please let me know. P.S. I really hope that guy comes back and reads this.
When it comes to meney people tend to be offended more, that and women. I'm also at a relativly poor country but I'm lucky that I get by having my own ways to get money. Everything I have is mine and I can only be thankful of myself for it. Now if someone critised that he would atleast deserved a winnuke (if it would work). People that have money tend to express their views that are not based on poverty, they do not understand or understand too late what it is like having no budget. me? I own a PS2 and a dreamcast and I only buy original games for them since I think they're worth it (50$). And no offence to anyone I don't think arcanums proggraming level deserves 50$ I'm glad I never bought the original, I would have really felt like shit when it started crashing like no tommorow. I love games and I barrly bought my gf3 and athlon1,4 and now I'm supposed to give 50$ to a poorly (code wise) written game? gimme a brake
I think I've had the game randomly crash on me 3 times. If that. No more than any other game... I think it's just a few people propagating all this buggy crap, and everyone else jumping on the bandwagon. Yes, certain programming things could have been done better. Fallout 2 had really long loading times, but did that stop anyone from buying and playing the game? Hell no! It had more bugs than fleas on a beggar, not to mention Arcanum, yet many many people played it. I think you are judging Arcanum too harshly, and forgetting about the real world. I'd like to see you write and error-free program. I'm sorry, it just can't be done - I've tried many many times. Something inevitably crops up. (Murphy's Law is so accurate sometimes...)
