Question about Waromon the lizard

I have Waromon in my party. He is an excellent archer, and normally I use him as such, but this time I have both him and Raven- and only one Ellumun's bow. Waromon carries an Arcane bow, which I'm quite disappointed in (probably because of Waromon's low MA, I don't know). Anyway, at the moment he's a Melee master with ST18 (and I still don't know how he managed to become a Master without me being Educator), so I thought I would give him some decent blade and make him fight hand-to-hand this time. But here comes a big fat but.
So far I tried giving Waromon the following weapons: Arcane Great sword, Charmed Great sword, Arcane axe, Barbarian heavy blade- but he refuses to use them! He only agrees to use the Arcane sword, but his MA is too low to do any decent damage with it. Does anyone know of a decent blade he could use, and by what twisted lizard logic exactly does he chose or reject them?
Also, could anyone remind me the coordinated for the Ruins of Szabo, where Bow of the Ecclesiastes is supposed to be? Going to try what Waromon can do with it, if he can't use any of the really good blades.

 

Okay, Waromon only uses certain types of blades. The Bow of Ecclesiates is in a castle on the other side of the river north of Blackroot. The only thing it has going for it is the longest range of any weapon in the game. You can't even see the range the bow has. It's 50 whatever things the game uses to measure.

Okay, he uses scimitars or something like that, he's better off using a bow. Also, some NPC's come trained, and he's one of them. I believe one of the others includes the evil halfling thief in Dernholm.

My recommendation is let Waromon hang back and use his spells, which he'll do more if he has a bow, or don't use him at all.

 

Hmm, I've experimented with this lizard fellow a bit. Here are the results of the research:
Waromon refuses to use shields
He doesn't seem to be able to use his left hand for anything other than bows, definitely not two-handed swords
He can't use any axes, even if he has no problem with their MSR requirements.
He CAN use the Blade of Unholy fire. A question- what exactly are the negative side effects of using it? Who does it do this random fire damage to- the enemy or the wielder?
Waromon CAN use Arcane sword- but does an extremely low damage with it

 

He will use the Ballanced Sword, but I forget how much % to crit fumble it gives him. In the Elven Ruins, there is an EHB, +10 TH. Give him that & try him with a Katana. Give him speed boots & Guantlets of DX. & either he or Raven must wear the Helm of Yacazar's Cost. The other should get the Trapmaker's Spectales.

 

All this already done, though I'm still hesitating between the Arcane bow and the EHB+10TH. The latter has 2 more points of speed, but lower damage.
I was thinking about giving him a katana or maybe a Filament sword if he can use it. What REALLY interests me now is how exactly he became a melee Master. He comes as an Expert in melee and bow, and I didn't chose the Educator background.

 

Some followers start off with training. Others like Dog and Waroman gain training with levels.

 

And why can't he or Dog teach Vergil that trick?
