    A broom would not serve the same purpose. If it is a wood broom handle it would break. A metal one would be hollow most likely therefore inflicting less damage. And a plastic one, would be hollow and, well plastic and inflict less damage. Not to mention I have never seen a broom with the right size handle for a staff.
