I know it's probably buried somewhere in these forums, but as I'm not willing to go through 30+ pages in an effort to find an answer, I'm hoping you folks will help me out.

I've installed the latest Official Patch, as well as the next-to-latest Unofficial Patch by Drog, and before I installed either, my game was without issues. But now, when I go into the options menu, the text above each of the little bars is gone.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

Where the hell do you people get such bizarre bugs.

Could this be a rendering error? Have you tried the -no3d command line argument?

I wish I could tell you why it happened, but I can say that when I click the options button from the Esc. Menu in-game, it crashes the game. So if that helps someone come up with an answer, that'd be great.

As for that -no3d command line argument... I don't even know what that is. But I assume it's in the forums somewhere, so I will try to do a search for it.

Also... if I'm not mistaken, I had this same error with the options menu the last time I install the unofficial patch, which was admittedly a few years ago. I'm doing the best I can to remember what fixed it, but so far, no luck... I got a problem with remembering stuff like that, for whatever reason.

EDIT: I should mention that for some reason, the latest version the Unofficial Patch doesn't recognize the fact that the latest Official Patch is installed. Would that have something to do with my problem?

    Ah, I see...

The original release had the options text stored in Arcanum.exe itself, for some reason, which made it awkward to translate. They changed this in one of the patches. Your problem comes from the fact that you didn't install the official patch/messed it up somehow and older versions of the UAP didn't properly check whether the official patch is really installed or not. So Arcanum.exe expects the .mes file with the options text, but it's nowhere to be found. This problem was already reported a few times before, because people are idiots and can't install a patch that doesn't automatically detect their game folder or won't even bother reading the requirements for the UAP. Fuck you.

Re-install the game + official patch + unofficial patch. Don't forget to delete your saves and start a new character.

    No reason to get hostile.

I did do those instructions, in that order, as you stated. My installation of Arcanum may have been corrupted somehow, or the official patch just felt like being a royal ass and messing with my game. Go figure.

Anyhow. I'm re-installing Arcanum after I delete the files containing both the official patch and the unofficial patch so I can download them fresh, just to be safe.

EDIT: I re-installed the game. Downloaded and installed the 1.0.7.4. patch, and then attempted to install the latest unofficial patch. It still says that I don't have the 1.0.7.4. patch installed.

I know I'm probably just doing something wrong, but for the life of me, I don't know what. I even tried each program as administrator, but still, nothing.

You're obviously installing the official patch into a wrong folder. For fuck's sake, pay some attention to what's happening on your screen!

I install the thing directly into the C:\Sierra\Arcanum folder every time, though. Am I supposed to put it somewhere else? Because if I am, do tell. Anywhere else doesn't make any sense to me.

EDIT: Alright, here's what I have done twice now. I've installed Arcanum. I've download and installed the 1.0.7.4 Official Patch. I made sure it was installed in C:\Sierra\Arcanum. I then attempt to install the Unofficial Patch in its latest version into the same folder, yet it still says that I don't have the 1.0.7.4 patch installed, when I know I do. I wouldn't be able to get the Read Me file for it if I didn't have it installed, I don't think.
