Having used a variety of characters in the game I have been formulating my next one, a poisoner.

#Master at air magic (poisonous vapours)
    #Doctorate in Chemistry (strong poison)
    #Master at prowl

    Any other suggestions?

You get bad exp. IIRC killing someone with poison gains you no exp. I tried that once... but if you do try, I'd suggest backstab too. Also, Invisibility would be very useful.

Prowl+ Envenomed sword+ backstab= poisoner assassin (sneak up on them, hit them with the sword, hide or run away, wait for them to die)
Prowl+Envenomed bow= archer poisoner (no need for running, you can shoot from Prowl mood)
Or you can go for a gun chemist: Paralysis+poison to finish off creatures when you can sneak on them unnoticed, Tranquilizer Gun+poison when you have to face them.

OK, so Air & Phantasm, combined with Chemistry & Gunsmithy, plus Prowl and Backstab. Would this create a balanced, magic or tech character?

A good poisoner always has the antidote.

Yes, good point, add Herbology (poison cure) and Necromantic White (Halt Poison) to all of the above

With Phantasm, Air, Necromantic White, combined with Herbology, Chemistry plus Prowl and Backstab, am I going to be able to do this before level 50 or will I need the level 127 mod?

I don't know about others, but I like the level 127 mod and think it's always worth having.

The question is-what is the point? Neutral character= near zero MA= weak Poison Vapours. I'm not too fond of neutral characters, to tell you the truth. I'd go either for a mage poisoner (Poison Vapours+Sword of Sickness+ Prowl or Phantasm), or a techie poisoner.

Got to go with Solaris on that point - the only neutral character you'd ever truly succeed with would be a brute with 20-something Strength. If you want to specialize, pick a side and stick to it.

It's by no means impossible (or even difficult) to beat the game with a hybrid tech/magic, but he/she won't excel at anything in particular - but it may just be me getting all obsessive-compulsive again *pops pills*.

I too agree, pick a side. Either tech or mage (I'd go with mage, but that's just me)

BTW was I right about the exp from poison kills?? I remember getting no exp for killing someone with poison.

Sounds alright. Plus Sword of Sickness. Oh and and of course the Ring of Poison Resistance+Serpent's amulet from Isle of Despair- so you wouldn't get hurt too much from your own Poison Vapours.

Raised by Snake Handlers? (or something like that)
As for race, if you're going to go mage better not pick dwarves...

I have played a dwarf mage before, wasn't bad, but I wouldn't do it again.
Probably a half-orc, by far my favourite race.

    [tangent]

Intelligent half-orcs are incredibly fun to play - you'll get insulted on a regular basis, and then have brilliant, witty comebacks...

If you're going to be a poisoner mage, half-orc really is the best alternative available for you. You get a bonus to Constitution which always is nice for those who dabble in wizardry, and it also adds to your already formidable poison resistance (you get +20 after all). You don't want to die from your own Poison Vapours...
