Hi. I just started playing the game after getting it about a year ago and I've lost my manuel and have a few questions. First, how do I trian? I've asked arround and was able to train melee, but that's it, everyone else says I'm not experianced yet. Two, is there a hot key to target yourslef or can you set one up? I hate casting heal and trying to click on myself. Three, what does it mean when I hold a weapon and it light's up red? Does that mean I cant use it? And if I do start using a differant weapon than normal, will I start training myself in it till I get good at it? Four, How come no one will join me? Last, Where are the thieves that the mayor of Black Root tells me to go to? He said on the outskirts of town, but I cant find em. And yes, I have the manuel that's downloaded, but it's hard to read it all and there are no pictures, I like pictures. Please help me. Thanks.
1) You hafta have at least 2 skill points in a skill before you can be trained as an apprentice. 2) Yes. Hold shift, and then click on the item. 3) I'm not sure. Can you still use it? Maybe it means that you can't use it properly because you aren't strong/skilled enough... 4) Are you evil or very ugly/low on charisma? *WARNING! SPOILERS ENCLOSED!!!* 5) They are on the other side of the train; across the river. Welcome to the forums! :wavey:
Thankyou very much for those answers. Now another question. How do I put points in those other skills? I have it set up to distribute my points automaticly, should I turn that off? And if I do start using a differant weapon than normal, will I start training myself in it till I get good at it? Plus, if you have any tips for a newbie that I'm not thinking of, please let me know.
This isn't Morrowind; you can use a melee weapon all game but you'll just continue chopping off your own head unless you spend character points in the skill. I personally don't like to play with the autolevel schemes, they just cramp my style. If you really want to use the scheme, pay attention to what skills you acquire whenever you level up, and don't try throwing if you're gaining ranks in melee. 3) Does it say something like MSR: 15? Means you don't have the Minimum Stength Required for the weapon. You may use it if you wish, but you will also experience more critical failures.
If you have chosen to go with an auto-leveling scheme then the AI will distribute your character points as it has been programmed to. If you would like to distribute the points yourself then I would suggest changing it to no scheme selected (upper right of the character screen). As silly as it may sound, using a weapon in Arcanum is not necessarily related to proficiency with that type of weapon. The only way to get better with a combat skill is to gain experience, then levels, and then invest your character points into one of the disciplines. Be aware that dexterity is the requisite statistic for all combat skills; if you don't have enough dexterity, you will not be able to advance a combat skill.
I knew it had something to do with strength. I'm so proud of me! Yes, as Canis and Cobra said, leveling schemes aren't the greatest idea. It would be better to turn them off and invest the points where YOU want them, otherwise they are often wasted for stuff like extra health/fatigue.
To find of the max stats of all the schemes play Virgil the Pevert mod. Even if you're not interested just play it.
The reason why not everyone will join is because there is only a limited amount of special characters in arcanum that will join you called followers for every 4 Charisma you have you can get 1 follower in the place where you spend your character points it will tell you how many followers you can have. also there are sometimes requirements needed to get them to join you like a certain quest you have to complete, level required for him/her to join you, sometimes they will only join you if you are good or evil, ect also there are some followers that you don't need a follower slot for. The auto leveling schemes are what the followers use to level up It is better not to use it by putting it on no scheme. so you can spend the character Points you get when you level up on what you want. it is also good to only learn how to use one weapon only so you can spend your character points on some other skill instead
