I went to a store earlier today to buy a new graphics card for my computer.
I figured I'd just get a 256MB card, because they're so damn cheap these days. Before that, I checked my computer's specs and hardware accessory slots to see exactly what i needed in a card. My computer is SUPPOSED to be able to support an AGP based card as well as PCI cards. It even says in my computer's system specs screen that I have onboard PCI and AGP slots. Apparently, no, I don't. I only have PCI slots; however, I happen to have three of them, plus a fourth unused slot that I could fiddle with later to add an AGP port. However, I only found that my computer was lacking after I had opened it, as well as the port I intended to use. In the resulting liberation of the inner workings of my computer, I found that there are several VERY sharp edges on the inside of my computer, and they proceeded to slice my finger to the bone. Unfortunately, I never felt a thing, and merely wondered why there was liquid on the inside of my computer case, and more of this strange fluid dripping on to my PCI modem.
Now, I have a large slice in my right index finger, a new found knowledge of how little my PC can do, as well as a graphics card that I need to return to the store. Fun.

    Buy a new computer.

Edit: I've cut myself with a computer case once, but it was a very minor injury. But once when I fixed a P1, I've successfully touched an uninsulated (is this the correct word?) part of the crudely fixed power switch. That 220V was really great

Hey, I've just remembered: we had an armchair that had a large metal rod in it (dunno why), and 2..3 centimeters of it were outside. I wanted to reach something from the chair, so I kneeled on its arm. The result was a fucking deep and long gash/wound/scar/whatever [which is the correct?]

Grossen, how old is your computer? You've only got PCI slots? Most if not all new computers are sporting either AGP or PCI-Express.
I'm not even sure you can buy PCI graphics cards any more. I agree with Frigo, buy a new computer.

My last computer went up in a ball of smoke, literally. One of the capacitors that regulate the incoming power supply voltage into the mobo decided to explode and spew fire an inch-and-a-half onto the wires and various other components, melting and charring the bits quite nicely. What was even better is that I was away when it happened, and it could have started a fire! Thank goodness for metal cases. No blood, but the smell of electrical fire lasted for a month!

Nah, I'm just going to back up my hard drive, buy a NEW hard drive, get some RAM, and get a graphics card.
Well...yeah maybe I'll get a new computer. I know my 2.93 gigahertz won't be fast forever.
Edit= My computer was made in 2004.

Wow, you must run that new Windows Glorified Plastic Box OS. I heard that plays a good game of Minesweeper.

There's supposed to be a new OS coming out, Vist@ or some such.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/
Maybe wait until it comes out to get a new comp (early 07). I'd rather go with Unix or something, but it doesn't work with all the M$ junk I've got.
V!sta will probably be the same as the last batch of w!n95 redux's, without backward compatibility.

No Linux version? What kind of opensource program is only made for a proprietary OS and not the open ones?

I hate minesweeper...But I'm running XP. I don't feel like doing that Windows Vista crap. I'll end up switching over to a Mac before Vista becomes relevant.

    Once it's ready, then http://reactos.org

Until then, XP SP2 with TDK as the publisher .

Keep 98, it was the last MS OS worth a damn!

Reactos might be interesting, but if there's no financial gain for anyone, there's always the worry that they wont keep it up-to-date with all the patches and security features. After all, you do get what you pay for.

Red Hat's nice for Linux, and has a familiar looking environment. Now if you could run MS applications on it, I'd switch today....

Update, either my computer's motherboadr has been broken (by me) or the ram chip has been broken (by me). I'm using my mom's laptop to write this message. I miss my computer already.
I got a 256 MB ATI radeon for m computer, one that fits in a PCI slot, and then I bought 512 megabytes of DDR ram. However, this DDR ram (I checked, it is, indeed, DDR and not DDR2) is slightly different from MY DDR, and doesn't fit in the ram slots. After finding this out, I put my original ram chip in the first of two ram slots, and powered up my computer. The fans start, but the "computer on" light stays off. That, and my computer will not boot up at all. From my experience, this is what happens if there is NO ram in the machine. However, with the ram chip being present, my computer seems to just not be reading it. This is either because the part of the motherboard connected to the ram slots is broken, or the ram itself is broken. I'm very sad. To make things worse, I still have the play disk of Arcanum in my CD drive!

Mainboard type? Your other RAM's capacity? Are you sure it is not an SD ram?

CD drive: get a nice needle and use the emergency eject hole or wtf.
