I'm currently trying to max out my Pick Locks skill and have 21 dexterity but when I try to distribute any more points into Pick Locks it claims I need more dexterity. There's only one segment of the bar left in Pick Locks and i'm currently an expert in it, I haven't done the Master quest yet. Is there something i'm missing here?
Are you wearing anything magical to increase your DEX like the gloves of dexterity? It may be possible that the magical bonus is lost due to your tech apptitude from pick-locks. Just a thought. Are you sure you have 21 in DEX and not something else. You should only need 18 DEX to max out lockpicks anyways. What message do you get exactly when you try?
I think you already have the maximum number of points in lockpicking (hence why it whines when you try to increase it), you just have some gloves or gauntlets on, removing 1 point from the skill. Or was that the pickpocket skill?
I did have some magic items on to up my Dexterity but even without them i'm still at 18 which should be enough. Here's a picture of my current stats and the issue that happens when I try to raise Pick Locks. http://i349.photobucket.com/albums/q390 ... klocks.jpg
Ah, yes, I get it. Racial modifier. No way you can circumvent it. Try finishing the master quest though, it usually succeeds.
Looks like the only way around it, besides hoping that the pick locks master doesn't check the stat, is to find something to boost pick locks directly. There might be a gods quest that does this, but I don't know of any items offhand that have this effect.
Bolo, ancient god of thieves. Bolos alter. Just north of caladon. Offering is any ring. I wouldn't recommend this unless you do the proper order, it borks the ancient god's quest. Proper order is... Spoiler First Circle: Ter'el, Makaal, Alberich, Geshtianna, and then Halcyon Second Circle: Torg, Bolo, Kerlin, Shakar, and then Moorindal Third Circle: Alberich, Makaal, Kerlin, Bolo, and then Kaitan Fourth "Circle": Velorien As you can see, if you actually follow the proper order it could take a little bit till you can master the skill, as I doubt you would be willing to run up and back from the locations where the altars are just doing offerings. That is why I strongly recommend... Light-fingered gauntlets. Visit the gypses and the magic shops, Troika covered A LOT of their bases and I would be surprised if they missed this. I don't think the master won't check. That's why I always avoid characte with a +2 in any skill, you still need to spend the character point to get the final 2. Not worth it in my opinion. By the way, nice character. I never had the balls or magic skill to make a mage without giving him some type of melee/strength prowess. Would you mind posting just the spell layout page, I'm interested in what colleges you are into.
