Ok so I saw a special on Chick Hatcheries on the Science Channel today, during no part of the process is the beak removed from the chick or thousands of "discarded" chicks emptied into bins to slowly suffocate.

However when I did a search for videos and pictures of the sort on the net, what I got back are Peta pictures showing the same process I had just watched except with one difference ... their footage showed people removing the beaks(not actually removing them, but with their beaks in one of these things) with what looked like bottle openers and discarding all these living chicks into bins where they suffocated.

Now I have to wonder who here is lying, my gut tells me that of course it is Peta. Why? Because no one would throw away money, and that is essentially what the "discarded" chicks are to the companies involved in raising them. Also their beaks are not removed as the pictures, etc claim because the companies make their money selling living, and healthy chicks(they even immunize them against many diseases).

In many images I have seen since starting this search the Peta images, etc show the chicks supposedly being debeaked though in later pictures of the process and end results(chicks for sale in feed stores, being shipped out, etc) they all still have their beaks.

I have to ask, what the fuck is wrong with these people do they fake a great deal in these pictures and videos to intentionally drum up support?

I also found this website, http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ . Don't forget to sign the petition to have PETA's tax exempt status revoked.

PETA is full of more shit than vegans, which is bad since a side effect of veganism is constipation.

Mag, you are absolutely right in thinking that PETA is full of feces. It's all about politics, baby.

Debeaking is a process that is usually done to chickens that are used in big corporation laying houses. It is a harmless, bloodless process that only removes one third of the top beak. The chicken is still able to drink and eat, and the benefit is no "hen-pecking". I have seen chicks gang up on one chick, and peck it to death.

However, debeaking isn't often used in your typical "backyard" flocks. Usually, only individual chickens are debeaked because of being over-agressive and inflicting wounds on others.

About the "throwing chicks in pits to suffocate", that's bullshit, too. Again, big laying operations are who PETA is after here. "Discarded" chicks are males, roosters who have nothing to do with laying eggs. So, when a laying house hatches a bunch of biddies, they are sexed, and the males (cockerels) are seperated. I must profess, I don't really know what happens to the male chicks. Maybe they are ground up into fertilizer, or put into dog feed. I live right across the road from a huge egg farm (you talk about stink), but I've never really asked what they do with the cockerels.

So. Probably more information than you ever cared to know, but that's that.

For a while, PETA had me going, but, like you, Mag, I saw some strange similarities in all of the "new" footage being showcased by PETA.
I've read about the so-called "de-beaking", and my neighbors, who happened to own six fully grown chickens (two roosters and four hens; bad idea), had one of their roosters de-beaked. He was much less likely to hurt the kids or the other chickens after that, but he was still a fully-functional bird, able to drink and eat and (God damn it) crow.
How the hell would a camera get into a slaughter house, anyway? And in the positions from which the footage is taken? I mean, I can understand security cameras, but not cameras sitting on the floor, angled up at a person throwing live chickens at a wall.
I've had friends and family members who work in animal processing plants, and every one of them knows for a fact that there are strict rules as to the preperation of live animals for food, and that there are NEVER any cameras in the slaughter house itself. That's just sick to think about.

I tried getting a job in a chicken processing plant a few years ago, though quit before I even started when I saw nothing but a sea of hispanic faces(wasn't keen on the idea of being the only white guy).

Yeah, here recently though I have been finding out alot more about PETA namely the fact they have been connected to several terrorists who are responsible for fire bombings, burglaries, etc.

They even have convicted criminals that teach PETA messages in schools across America. I saw footage of one of their conventions where they were telling participants how to create molotov cocktails, and other incendiary devices.

Now I have to wonder how the hell are they getting away with promoting homegrown terrorism post 9/11?

So really what you are saying is that PETA is a whole conspiracy about bitching chicken rooting morons who are trying to cover their asses as terrorists?
I would not e suprised if this is true as any vegan really has something wrong with them. And as a group.....well....

My take on the whole PETA thing is that they over-exagerate stuff and only show you the extreme abusers rather than the run-o-the-mill operations, basically propaganda.
On the other hand, the animal processing factories only show you what you want to see so you'll still eat the spam and hot dogs which are actually animal scraps and other junk that falls on the floor, basically propaganda.

If they are acting like terrorists or aggressive animal rights people, thats a whole different ball of chicken fat. Earth First tried that a while back and it ruined their group. They spiked trees to kill lumberjacks who cut them down, sabotaged ski lifts causing them to fall down, and who knows what else.

That's the kind of thing that always baffles me. I have no problem with people wanting be vegetarians or whatever, but I do have a problem with people trying to force me (or anyone else) into doing what they believe is right.

And to protect animals by intentionally hurting people is just plain crazy.

Sorry - I meant to post something articulate, but it seems my langage skills have gone AWOL since the last hour. Hope some of my meaning comes through, at least.

Someone once said that PETA is not pro-animal, they're just Anti-Human. They (and Earth First) definetly have a few screws loose.

Well that is because there is no one firm answer to why they crossed the road.

Some horrible things go on in animal processing centres, usually just because people get lazy and are too moronic to care.
    e.g. Turkeys get electrically stunned.
    Throats slit.
    Put in boiling water.
However if this isn't done right the turkey remains conscious so the electrical zap does nothing but cause pain.
They then have their throats slit, usually not deep enough to kill them (as they are supposed to be unconscious already). Which results in them writhing around in pain as they bleed to death.
However before they do bleed to death they are thrown into boiling water.
So a painless process is turned into 10 minutes of extreme torture just because of laziness.

I don't believe in organisations that tell us we aren't allowed to eat meat but I do think we all need to know where our meat comes from and what happens to it when it is alive.

Dare I ask why you hang around at "Women Gamers"?

Surely every other topic is "I hate female stereotypes in games" with the topics in between being "Why must they always have enormous breasts?".

They must have enormous breasts to be worth the time it takes to animate them.

I think the reason most women in videogames have large breasts to show that they're mature (i.e. fully developed). If there were a bunch of A and B cups running around, people would question the age of the character. That, and they might not be as appealing to some of the other gamers. If you're like me, you can't get excited about a girl who looks like she's 12 and she's really 22.

So you prefer the 12 year olds who look like 22 year olds?
    Yeah, I know your type.
