I know that the firearms skill depends on PE (you can't raise Firearms without having a sufficient PE score), but does PE affect your chances to hit with a gun? I know that having a higher PE score allows one to see further, but will it improve my chances to hit? otherwise, since my firearms skill is already maxed out, i'll just invest my cp's in other areas stats. also, just how effective are called shots? is the chance of scoring a critical hit or knocking a moster our (or slowing it down) worth the penalty that one takes for doing a called shot?
Yes, the chance is usually worth it, unless the creature can be killed without a critical hit, anyway. As for the PE, yes, PE helps gain a better chance to hit. Also, if your PE is 20, you can see invisible things.
Check it with a save & Jayna's Liquid of Awareness or the Eye Gear. You will find that PE does help. One PC of mine, with PE 10, NO firearms skill, & Doc's relvolver (+3 TH), had a 10% TH when shooting Jacob Bens after midnight. Outside, in not much light. :-o Supprised me. Called shots increase the crit hit chance. If you already have 160% TH, its a good thing to do. I believe that they also increase the chance of a cripling crit hit on the body part targeted.
You know, another thing that I have found usefull for my Tech Gunslingers; getting a IN of 20, it adds 10% to the TH. This makes called shots that much more easier. VERY nice when your character is high TA, wont even miss gore guards.
No... more like when you have a TH so high that you can take the TH - that comes with called shots & still be over 100% is the best time to use them. A crit hit is often worth the reduced TH, which i don't remember as being that much. Firearms Expert drops the penalty by 1/3.
