I really love world editing in Arcanum. I find it to be a load of fun and stuff, but what really gets to me and is really holding me back are the scripts for books and stuff. It takes FOREVER just to get 1 book written. Is there any way to make scripts easier??
Haha, rroyo is right. I have found a lot of ways to make one script that serves many purposes, but devising a way to do this is always 100 times harder than just writing the individual scripts. What do you mean by “scripts for books,” though? Are you talking about scripts for the attachment point of books? Say, for example, that sets a certain rumor or a global flag indicating that a player has read your book?
you mean gamebook.mes? that's just text editing. I always thought it was a lot easier than writing dialogues
You just have to write a book in the gamebook.mes to have a custom book. How many books in the game are really important, anyway? You can just replace one you never liked, like the Panarii pamphlet or something, and save it. Then, the next time you pick up the pamphlet, you've got a book you wrote yourself.
Yeah, I have no fun with those either. So little, in fact, that I don't even try writing them anymore.
scripting can definitely be a pain in the ass, especially because some of the things you expect scripts to be able to do don't work how you expect them to, and you have to try solving a problem a hundred ways to get it to work right. However, I personally like the scripting part because it's the most challenging. I used to like writing dialog a lot, but the more multiple paths I add to my mod, the more seemingly unimportant PC response lines I have to add, which will probably be seen by hardly anyone.
