Following the trend of my latest computer dramas (which are far too long and complicated to recite here), Outlook Express has been fucking with me lately. Unfortunately, Outlook Express is not a woman of legal age, nor an actual physical entity, so this isn't as funny a situation as it could be.

My problem is this: Under Windows 98, I had no problems switching between users, it worked every time without a problem. Under Windows XP (same version of Outlook Express as far as I can tell) this does not happen - instead it asks me if I want to switch identities, to which I answer yes, and then closes and restarts again...as the same identity as before. The fucker refuses to switch! It won't budge an inch from using anything other than the default identity.

Does anyone know how to resolve this problem? I'm without the majority of my emails until this is fixed, so if you're looking to send me something nasty or nice (hasn't happened before, but it MIGHT) then help me sort this out please!

    Hmm. :ponder:

Are you using Outlook Express 6, and did you by chance install SP1? It introduced a bug that kept people from switching identities in Outlook Express. There's a fix for it here.

And that's all I can come up with this late in the day.

Yes, I was using SP1, and Outlook Express 6. The problem has now been resolved, thanks to the hard drive fucking itself in the ass, and requiring me to re-install Windows from scratch...so for the second time in two days I've got to go through the process of changing all the settings and installing various programs. I'll probably need that fix, though, because I'll get SP1 running on here soon again.

Note to others: When your master boot record, and/or boot file get so corrupted that the Recovery Console doesn't even recognise, and you can't even boot in Safe Mode, that is a Bad Thingâ„¢.

The best to do with OE is shitcan it once your mail is recovered. It is not a very good program, & due to its prominence, & wide spread usage, hackers by the thousands are exploring its weaknesses. That is also a Bad Thingâ„¢.
