I want to start the game, and it shows my autosave file EMPTY, as if I've never ever used it! I try to load from earlier saves- I have at least a dozen- neither of them works! I finally find one working save, launch it- and find myself as a naked human named "no one" near an equally naked shopkeeper and his open chest. I try to talk to the shop keeper- he's angry that I'm naked! Look who's talking, he's naked himself damn it! I look at thee world map- I'm placed OUTSIDE Arcanum! Now I have to reinstall and play again, and its too damn unfair, because its the third time round that I have to reinstall because of saves getting screwed. It always happens more or less under the same circumstances- after the Isle of Despair, while travelling the Morbihan planes from Tarant towards either Ashbury or Stillwater. And since I can't patch my game, there's nothing I can frigging do about it. Did anyone figure out what may trigger this kind of bug? Could it be keeping followers you weren't supposed to keep, like Thorwald Two Stones?
The very same thing happened to me too, prepatched IIRC. I can't recall myself doing anything special, I didn't keep Thorvald or even had him join, so it can't be that. It only happened me once though... didn't you run the game unpatched? The patch may solve this one you know... It's pretty amusing when you think of it though... that's probably what's happening behind the scenes when you make purchases for a freshly built character! Take a fig leaf and you can do the Yatta dance  ! (sorry, I couldn't resist the temptation)
Because I was stupid enough to buy a version of Arcanum that is released by the Russian Fargus company. It has both the Russian and the English versions on the same CD. The Russian version can be patched with patches released by Fargus, the English version (which I prefer to play) does not accept neither Fargus patches, nor original ones. I'm searching to buy an original English version that could be patched, but so far couldn't find any
Have you tried the repair option on the install disk? The problem is corupted saves. I don't know if repair will fix them. Yes, this is the graphical represntation of the company store. Also, some here in the "land of the free" have found Arcanum on the bargin racks for as little as $10. Let your computer do the walking, & if you haven't got plastic, or don't want to use it on line, international money orders are available.
Actually, Shady, there's a problem with ordering from the sates to east of the EU, unless you do eBay. I live in Prague, which will soon be EU, and we can't order any non-book thing from any Amazon, or any PC shop shop I've found. This might be different in Israel because of its US ties, but I don't think so. BTW, if anyone knows of a US or Brit gameshop that will deliver to Central/Eastern Europe, please let me know. I think it has to do with applicability of int'l copyright laws, so I doubt it, but it sure would be nice.
If I wanted to be nice I would buy another and ship it too you. If I wanted to be nice that is. And if I knew where you lived. And if I could find another copy of Arcanum at EB Games. And if I remember to keep 20-25 bucks for the game, only like 5, and shipping.
As this is an American chain, you can't just go down to the local franchise in Haifa, & pick one up. They just oppened their first Washington State location, so I realy don't know their full name. Fry's Electronic Botique? Fry's Electronic Superstore? I would cheerfuly ship you a coppy as well, but at my favorite retail shops it is still around $30. I keep looking for those $10 coppies for my friends, but without much luck.
Solaris, email me with where u live, and if you know how much shipping from east coast to there is. It might take me a couple of weeks to get it, I have to get over to the mall with some money, and I don't plan to go too soon.
Thanks Shady and Blinky, but I'll have to ponder it further. Wound't want to trouble anyone because of a computer game. I'll get a decent compy sooner or later.
