Is it very difficult adding new weapons to Arcanum? I'm completely unversed in the editor and whatever else might need to be done, so I'm curious to see if I could even begin to attempt it. I've noticed that there aren't any very good maces or hammers in the game (at least, I've never found any), and I'd like to make one if I can.

So is this something simple to do, or should I just be happy with my machined hammer?

    Thanks! :)

I believe you can create customised weapons of the existing types, in order to make personalised hexed or enchanted items etc. However, I don't think it's very easy, if at all possible, to create new weapon types from scratch.

For example. you could create an enchanted katana, that had a speed of 25, damage of 200, and cast desintegrate on your enemies at random intervals, but you could not create a double-handed axe.

Hex edit the weapon proto files. You can make better hammers that way. Can't create "new weapons" as such, though. Only fiddle with existing ones, like Ferret said.

Well, dang. I guess I'll stick with the ones you can get in-game. I'm not about to delve into hex-editing. I just know I'd break something. :)

It's not really hard at all. All you need to do is modify what the weapons does and what it looks like. Dark Underlord's mod-making tutorial does a good job of explaining how to do this. I have been experimenting with inesrting custom artwork and such but no luck yet.

Yes, indeed, creating custom weapons on a mod-to-mod basis is easy (and risk-free!). There are only two things i would urge you to remember, before you fill your mod with a bunch of editied weapons:

One) remember to check the "Is magickal" flag if you make a magic weapon. I once made about 20 staves and 20 swords for this custom shop, and then had to poop the items and edit every one again becasue they didnt appear in blue text. Yes, that's a stupid way to spend 45 minutes, but i want this mod to be near-arcanum like in perfection! That's of course a modder's discretion.

Two) dont forget to edit the file "Gameitemeffect.mes" This is where the details of what an item does appears on the screen when you hover the mouse over the weapon. Arcanum will generate an effect if you dfont, but this way you can fully customize what the player sees. So instead of Arcanum's 30-50D, ED 50-100 FD 50-100, you can make it say "This thing kills anything in one hit." Just a reminder--as always, it is your choice how picky you want to get.

    wishes of luck,
