Rescue of this thread from the second page has occured.

That said, I've experienced a Beatles renaissance. "Eleanor Rigby" and "Blackbird" are two of the best songs ever written...

Some other music some of you may be inclined to try out:

    Joan Osborne - "St. Teresa"
Cat Stevens - "Wild World", "Father & Son"
Eric Clapton - "Would You Know My Name", "Cocaine" (That rhymes! :D)
Susan Tedeski - "Angel from Montgomery"
Fleetwood Mac - "Gold Dust Woman", "Dreams"
Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Have You Ever Seen the Rain", "Who Stopped the Rain" (Ok, so it's a little strange that the same band performed both songs. Sue me.)
    Van Morrison - "Moondance"
Bruce Springsteen - "I'm On Fire"
    The Verve Pipe - "Freshmen"
Reel Big Fish - "Sell Out"
    Beethoven - "Tempest", "Moonlight Sonata"

I'd also like to take the opportunity to recommend the soundtrack to "Princess Mononoke" to anyone who likes classical music. If you're interested, download "The Legend of Ashitaka" first.

Thus concludes the reanimation of a dead thread.

Add "Gypsy" "Sara" "Rhannon" and many more (If you love Fleetwood and would like copies of their song Lyrics follow this link ;) http://www.yimpan.com/Songsite/Lyric/index.asp?aid=150 )

    Along with:
    Simon and Garfunkle
Tina Turner (including her Private dancer songs of course)
    The Doors
    Carlie Simon
    Otis Redding
    The Supremes

They are some of my old time favorites!

(plus who ever wrote that song called "Seventeen")

Simon & Garfunkel - "I Am A Rock", "The Boxer"
Otis Redding - "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay"
Tina Turner - "Rolling on the River", "Goldeneye"
(Diana Ross and) The Supremes - "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "Do You Know", "Heat Wave"
Can't say I've heard anything by the other ones on your list, but I've heard of them.

Music thread's back, right? I did aquire some interesting CDs lately.

I can definitely advice Alicia Keys album. Morcheeba (though I think I have a previous album, not the current one) and Gordon Haskell are good too. Now I have to say I'm very positively surprised with Shakira's album - she may look like yet another Britney clone but she isn't. Her "Tango" song is really great - I think I really fell in for ther voice. At times she hits such notes that um, it's really pleasant to listen.

Of the ablums I would like to get Leo Cohen comes to mind.

There's some other band which cd I will get soon but I can't remember the name right now.

Btw you should really feel bad that you don't know Polish thus can't listen to Kult band - oh well all you have left is envy me [IMG]

I really like Eminem's new album.

Artists drifting in and out of my Winamp list right now (depending on the mood) are -

    - Something for Kate (Monsters, Happy Endings, Twenty Years)
    - Pink Floyd (Time, Brain Damage)
    - The Beatles (A Day in the Life, Strawberry Fields, Back in the USSR)
    - The Whitlams (Blow up the Pokies)
    - Regurgitator (Happiness and a few others)
    - Coldpplay (Yellow)

    And some classical -

    - Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #3
    - Strauss - The Blue Danube
    - The Dambuster's March (You have no idea how much crap I've been given over this at school :D )
    - Band of Brothers Theme

Jar: TISM, one of their songs is the BackBerner theme, right? That's all I know.

EC: DWTWTSM *pant* is actually called 'Iris' - my favourite Goo Goo Dolls (don't listen to them much), however, is Broadway - have a listen.

Some of my favourite songs are ones that get me feeling all sad and stuff - it's as about as emotional as a song can be for me. Anything that actually makes me sadder, or more introspective/appreciate/whatever is good. There are a few for me, and I'll list them:

    1. Cat Stevens - Father and Son. Damn this song is good.
    2. Dire Straits - Your Latest Trick. I have a live version, so I can't compare to the studio, but it's good.
    3. Moby - Everloving. Instrumental and moody. Would have fitted in perfectly on the Braveheart soundtrack, but it'd be brilliant on almost any soundtrack.

There are others, but I can't remember them right now. Other songs I'd recommend (some old, some new, various genres) are:

    1. Millecollin - Penguins and Polar Bears.
    2. Reel Big Fish - Beer
    3. At the Drive In - Pattern Against User
    4. Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street
    5. Blue Suede - Hooked on a Feeling. Gotta love the Unga-Chucka's!
    6. Pixes/Pixies (not sure which) - Where is my mind.
    7. AFI - God Called in Sick Today

Aw, hell, there's lots of awesome songs. Anything by Queen is good, Dire Straits have some good stuff. Pink Floyd - The Wall is my all time favourite album. There's too much good music out there to name in a single post.

Carlie Simon "You're so vain" I LOVE the Janet Jackson remake of this song BTW.

The Doors "Break on Through (To The Other Side)" "Light My Fire"

This thread should have been called Old Music.

I'm listening to Elvis at the moment. I should get some more by Queen too, i basically just listen to Bohemian Rhapsody. Awesome song btw.

Gerry Rafferty, i like his Stuck in the Middle with You but i don't think i've ever heard Baker Street. I assume it's good?

EDIT: Downloaded Baker Street, i can see why you think it's good. It's great.

Ok, at the risk of further humiliation started by my 2nd "most embarassing episode" posted in this thread, I will now fess up to a new kinda music I listen to....

Celine Dion. Hahahaha. Laff it up. Face it. There's something powerful in her voice. Listening to one of her songs, driving down the highway at a slow speed cause I'm so into the song, people driving around me flipping me off, blowing their horns, cause I've got my eyes closed, tears streaming down my cheeks, veins bulging in my neck from straining my nuts to sing as high as she can, all the while trying to keep the sobs choked back, because her music justs riiiiiiips the feminine part of me to the surface.......

Whew. That's good stuff. Makes me cry vaginally, as Milo said once.

That kind of thing shouldn't be laughed at. My dad always says you shouldn't mock the afflicted. Have you sought help? Approached a doctor about having your ears removed for your own good?

RK - since when do Moby, Coldplay, and Celine Dion count as old music?

Settler - "Broadway is dark tonight/A little bit weaker than it used to be..." :D

Retard - I... uh... er... thanks for the vivid description

The most embarassing music I have on my computer is a folder for Bonnie Raitt.
    Anyone else?

Rat Keeng - Bohemian Rapsody is my favourite piece of music by Queen.

Retard I would advice you not to listen to CD while driving - for your and others sake.

I'm glad someone opened the door on this. Disturbed has released it's second album, not bad. Though it starts to sound like one continuous song after 20 minutes. Drowning Pool was a new group I liked, and seemed to be on the rise until the recent death of their singer. And while Tool isn't new at all, I'm pretty excited about their tour, seeing as how they will arrive in San Diego in a few weeks. On a side note there is a tribute album coming out for Johnny Cash, with some decent performer's.
All and all, I would have to say the Red Hot Chili Peppers newest album is the shit, and the one I am listening to most.

I just listened to the new Nirvana song ("You Know You're Right"), and, although I liked "Polly Want a Cracker", "Come As You Are", and "Smells Like Teen Spirit", I have to say that this particular one sounds like absolute, total crap.

Etalis, your absolutely right, which is why it wasn't released while Cobain was alive. You know how it is, once someone dies they rehash all the crap that was chopped from their album's and sell it off. It's a disgrace to the Nirvana legacy, but what can you expect when a witch like Courtney Love is at the helm.

You want Queen? I'll give you some Queen...First off, the usual suspects:

    1. Another One Bites the Dust
    2. We Will Rock You (Do not get the version by Five, or with Five. It's abuse of the song)
    3. One Vision

    Some other good ones are:

    1. Flash
    2. Seven Seas of Rhye
    3. Don't Stop Me Now
    4. Hammer To Fall
    5. Save Me
    6. Headlong
    7. Breakthru (no, I'm not being lazy, it is spelt like that)
    8. Innuendo (the best electric/acoustic guitar combo solo's that I've ever heard. You have to listen to it to understand what I'm talking about)
    9. Under Pressure
    10. I Want It All

Any/All of those are excellent songs. Get as many as you can. Don't Stop Me Now is my current favourite, even though some of the lyrics are...weird.

I myself listen to the Steve Miller Band version, simply because it was the one on the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack :).

EDIT: Downloaded Baker Street, i can see why you think it's good. It's great.[/quote]

What I really feel like listening to now is The Window Washers Dream, off SimCity 3k. :D .

I just pulled out Echolalia again*. Amazing. This is one of those albums you listen through for an hour, then press repeat. Monsters is still as powerful as the first time I heard it. Thank you, NM thread!

J: Yeah, I generally don't listen to jazz, but I've always liked Baker St.

I have a live version of Monsters, from one of Triple J's Live at the Wireless sessions. Honestly, I prefer it to the version on Echolalia. My favourite song off that album is Twenty Years. For anyone who doesn't know what we're talking about, the band is Something For Kate. Pretty damn good band.

On another note, Kick a Hole in the Sky is a song by You Am I. I found it pretty hard to get a hold of, but it's a great song.
