Getting my vehicular accoutrements all switched over to my new home state.

Got a temporary license that I'll have for 60 days while the state verifies my address.

Stores that sell alcohol don't take temporary licenses.

The good news? These temporary licenses used to be active for 6 months.

The bad news is that he appears to be living under some kind of oppressive regime that requires a driving license to buy alcohol.

At least I don't live in Massachusetts, where a person actually has to buy a specific Liquor ID to purchase alcohol.

Turns out the state of NH didn't actually tell anyone about these paper ID cards when they started printing them (4 years ago), and there are still businesses that think they're fake - or at least super cautious as to how likely they're able to be faked (which is really, really likely).

That's completely ass-backwards anyway. Are they trying to encourage drink driving? It ought to be the other way around.

"Greetings shopkeep, I'd like to purchase these alcoholic beverages."
"Certainly sir. May I enquire as to whether or not you hold a license to operate automobiles?"
"Why, as a matter of fact, I do."
"Then I am afraid I must decline this transaction, on account of the children."
"Despite being temporarily inconvenienced, I find myself in agreement with this policy. I shall send my wife on foot to purchase them in my stead. Good day to you."
"I commend your wisdom and restraint. Good day to you too, sir."

    That makes much more sense.

No I don't. We sell liquor IDs for those who never received their license or have had their licenses revoked but still want to buy alcohol. The rare times I still get carded my license is enough.

Passports and military IDs work fine in MA as well.

I should've said "if I had an out of state license" or any of the conditions you mentioned. I was on the internet doing search after search last night regarding temporary licenses, and one of the ones that came up was a person with a California license in Mass. who couldn't buy alcohol unless he had the Massachusetts Liquor ID. Oddly enough, I had more luck buying alcohol with a PA license than I do with my "actual" NH one.

I'd be able to work around the temporary license problem myself with a passport - but I need another form of ID (actual license/military ID) + birth certificate to get the passport in the first place.

Never thought of it that way but it does make a lot of sense!

That is odd. I have a friend from CO that now lives here and when she gets carded at the liquor store she just shows her CO license and it works fine for her. Granted she is cuter than you so that might be why.

I don't know...I am a bit of a narcissist, so that invalidates your point.

Ultimately it's up to any establishment's discretion, but apparently sellers in Massachusetts are less likely to simply take a driver's license. Any license.

Don't go to Boston (or the outskirts) and you should be fine. :p Honestly, MA severely enforces the liquor laws in major college towns and at tourist spots. Anyone that doesn't reasonably look over 30 gets carded. Some hick town (as in most along the NH border or out in the Berkshires) bar won't really give a damn.

I have been to the liquor store at Cleveland Circle mentioned in that Yelp article. It is rather beautiful to see all the confiscated out of state IDs.

I won't look reasonably over 30 until I'm in my 40's - I lose about 8 years from my age every time I shave.

I don't normally. I'm only doing it now due to my living arrangements - when I have a beard, my step-mom says I look too much like my dad. Considering how she gets when she's drunk, I don't want to look like my dad.

I guess you probably mean that she's an angry drunk, but I'm chosing to think that if you get drunk she'll try and jump your bones.

More like when she gets drunk. Too many times have I heard this woman drunkenly say I'm sexy.
