*makes a feeble attempt to join in Morrowind ecstasy....

Um....I went to the website one time...... It looked cool...

Dadburn it. Oh to be single again and have 60 bucks... Fatman, do you think we could get Amy and Lysa together soon? Maybe Lysa's love of games would rub off on her. My wife sees our computer as competition. She gets just as sore as she would were I talking to a hot, leggy blonde with ample......everything.

Argh!!! I am more lost in this game than a female pig on heat! The world I too big for my fragile little mind, and the first person view doesn’t help.

I think I have to redo my char, any tips of what magic schools are useless for a all mage guy (my first char has all schools as skills)? Forget a bit about role-playing, I suck so much in real time games that I had to load 5 times to win the fight against 2 rats (the first fighter’s guild quest).

Also, how the hell can I use alchemy? I place random ingredients (is there a recipe?) in the device and nothing happens (sometimes I get the message: “you fail to make a potion).

It's a first-person RPG. There are many, many skills, magics, etc. to choose from and quests etc. to further character development. Also, there are guilds etc. to join and these allow you to enhance your character in various ways.

Essentially, it's like a vastly enhanced Arcanum, in first-person.

This is a character I found very successful - great in a fight, fast, leaps high and very very rich.

    Race: Redguard
Sign: The Lady (can't beat that Endurance and Personality boost)
Attributes: Strength and Agility, although it could have been Speed instead of Agility
    Specialisation: Combat
Major Skills: Armourer, Athletics, Block, Heavy Armour, Long Blade
Minor Skills: Acrobatics, Hand-to-hand (filler skill, didn't really use it), Mercantile, Speechcraft, Unarmoured (can be handy, mostly filler skill though)

In general, you only need one melee combat skill (marksman is optional, and pretty handy at times), and one armour skill, although two can be handy if you start finding yourself weighed down a lot *cough*Daedric items*cough*. Mercantile and/or Speechcraft can be handy as well, although to get the most out of them, you should really pump Personality as well. High Endurance is a must for any character I find - if I'm not getting at least 5 hit points a level, I'm not happy (note: the character above had 285 or 295 hit points when he 'finished' the game - you get your Endurance/10 hit points per level, but no fractional bonus, so 40 is better than 39). The character above is well suited to joining the Imperial Legion, Fighters Guild, and House Redoran.

I also have an assassin character, who is fun to play, but I messed up his skills a little. I'm looking to play either a thief or mage next.

Also, look out for a post/topic soon on vampires, which will be a bit of a summary for all you guys :).

    Moon-Yak? hehe...Moonsugar?

Mercantile is useless, speechcraft is not very good, armorer is useless, han-to-hand not needed if you take other weapon skill, athletics ain't worth it, acrobatics ain't worth it either. Better you should have taken security, sneak etc.

Provided you don't sleep, what is to stop you from raising ALL skills?? I know that you cannot train a skill above it's limiting trait (ie. strength, agility) but I've found that once I've trained to the maximum level availabel, then you can still increase by using that skill!

Theoretically that means you can train a character to have maximum levels for all skills!

BTW, what is the maximum level for skills?

Max level for skills is 100. For stats also.

What's the maximum player level too?

Also, I've been playing the game for about 10 hours now, but have only gone to Balmora, Seyda Neen, Fort Moonmoth and that place beginning with P (Pelagian or something). I'm level 4, a blade apprentice (2nd level), fighter 3rd level, mage 5th level and thief 3rd level. I've also managed to level up virtually all of my skills to max levels according to my stats, and then I've got long-blade, block and athletics further than their max level.

    Is this normal?

Really Maniac? Perhaps you'd like to explain that to my character, who has over 140000 gold, everyone has a reaction of at least 75 to, can jump incredibly high, run whereever he wants quickly, and keep his own weapons and armour at optimal condition without have to go back to town everytime his weapon's durability drops too far. Security he got to in the 20's as a miscellaneous skill by picking and disarming every lock and trap within his ability.

Okay, Ferret, this is the deal. When you pay for training, it cannot exceed the stat which governs it. When you train it up yourself, it can go all the way up to 100. So yes, it is normal, and should hopefully be the case once you get to a high enough level. Personally, I don't pay for training, but then again, the more 'physical' you are, the easier it is to level. I find mages very hard to level in general in all games, and especially so in Morrowind.

Also, the Fighters and Thieves Guilds are somewhat...incompatible. The max player level is different for each character. As you level each time you increase any combination of your major and minor skills by 10 (see manual for details), then there is going to be a hard limit for the levels you can get. Although, if you reach it, congratulations. Some skills like Mercantile and Speechcraft take a long time to level, and even skills that you use frequently like a weapon one can take long times to level once the skill gets high enough.

There is nothing to stop you raising all skills to 100. I would consider this virtually impossible though - miscellaneous skills not only start at 5, but also level slower than everything else. Combine this with the low rate of increase once you get to the high levels, and it will take you ages to level up.

If anyone has further questions, send them this way. I don't know everything about the game (yet :)), but I do know a fair bit.

HAHA! And you say you know much?! My redguard custom class samurai with combat, some stealth and few spells but no fucking speechcraft, acrobatics, athletics, mercantile, armorer. Had 300k!!! Read it aloud lamer! That's 300000 if you don't get it :p . Most reactions were 100 with some lower (72) . Now I only have 80k gold because I spent it on training and now I have almost all skills at about 50-80 with some lower some higher. My strenght, endurance, agility, speed, willpower, personality (with mask of clavius) are 100. I have over 300hp. 70sp . 300fatigue. My armor rating is 170 with full ebony (some daedric), Lord's Mail (248AR) , Chrysamere (long sword, two handed, 1-72 damage nad my long sword is 100). I'm at highest rank in House Redoran, Imperial Legion and pretty high rank in fighets' g and mages guild. And operative of the Blades. So how is that?! And I'm still less than halfway through the main quest.

    • Every alchemical reagent has upto 4 effects.
    • To produce a potion with the desired effect, you must combine two or more reagents possessing the same effect.
    • Combining reagents is done by using your pestle&mortar, which produces the alchemy pane.
    • Your best pieces of alchemy equipment are shown in the 4 higher slots.
    • 4 spaces for reagents are the lower slots.

    Things to note:
    • Higher alchemy skill produces better potions (longer duration/more powerful effect)
    • Higher quality equipment, I think, increases the success chance for creating the potion.
    • Using more than two ingredients with the same effect does not make the potion produced more powerful
    • You need higher alchemy skill to see more of the effects of the reagents (45 = 3 effects, 55 = 4 effects, I think)
    • Negative effects are fairly common, and you have to be careful not to have two reagents with the same one in a potion or you end up with a nasty side-effect
    • There ARE recipes, but they're (of course) only particularly useful until your skill gets to 55, at which point you can plainly see how to combine any ingredients you can get your hands on.

I think that sums up my knowledge. Some of it might eb wrong, since I've pieced it together from experience and not verified it on a website or anything.

    Sorry. Me again!

I'm now on level 5 and have all of my skills on at least level 50. This is because I seem to have come across a bug.

To get money, I went around all the shops and houses in Balmora and Pelagian and stole stuff, then sold it to the shop next door. I repeated until all the items had revolved around to the shop before the one I stole it from (so I didn't get arrested). By now I had about 32000 gold. Then I made a mistake - I accidentally traded most my money. I then stole it back, but when it added to the pile saying 11K, it jumped to 37K and now does not go down. It's currently reading about 56,600 something and I have an inexaustible source of cash!! I now train to the maximum of all skills before resting so that I get the full benefit of the stat multiplyers.

Has anyone else come across this or is it just me?
