I made it, although my effort was extremely inconsistent this year. I had to write 15,000 words one day to get caught up.

Overall, yes. This was a successful effort and there were at least a few surprises along the way. I've found that NaNoWriMo is less about novel writing and more about directed brainstorming. As it happened for me, I very often did not know what was going to happen next until I had written it and I was often pleased with the direction this took. Some of the ideas that just happened could easily become themes of the story given enough review and editing.

The most unfortunate setback came from the source material around which I based the story. The main thread of the story was based upon the lyrics of the Spacehog songs as I understood them and I found that what I had understood was the opposite of what was being said in a song, and this changed things quite a bit. At least once, I had to take the story in the opposite direction I had imagined. I suppose I could have just carried on with my original idea, but that didn't seem very honest.

Well, that's pretty cool anyway. I thought about entering one year, but I don't seem to have the drive to complete a novel right now.

I only have the drive to complete one once a year.

Your phrase "to complete a novel" is intimidating. It's really more like I've described, simply brainstorming. One just brainstorms for fifty thousand words and NaNoWriMo calls it a novel.

Well that doesn't sound nearly as bad as I thought it was. Maybe I'll try for next year. I don't mean to say I'm not doing it because it's hard, but writing isn't really my forte. I can excel in writing, but I don't think in words, I think in pictures.

Don't we all imagine things in pictures and then put them into words?

    Unless you're autistic.

I made it to 21,000 words, but then production started, and I had no time.
