No, I'm not getting another cat. My sisters fawn enough over the one we already have.

I'm upgrading my computer. For all the upgrading I'm doing I might as well be buying a new one, but I'm retaining enough old parts to call it an upgrade (read: the hard drive).

I'm currently running an Athlon Thunderbird 900, on an ASUS A7V133, with 256 (2x128) MB 133 SDRAM and an ASUS GF2 GTS. It was nice two years ago, but now I'm (comparitively speaking) loaded with cash and an urge to upgrade.

I've already got my Athlon 2100+XP Thoroughbred B core (with a stepping of 0301 for those who know what it means). This chip can be overclocked like you wouldn't believe. Normally running at 1733 mHz, someone with an identical one got it to around 2.5 gHz on watercooling. There have been reports of getting the same results on aircooling, so with the five fans I plan on having, I should do pretty well. For the motherboard, I'm going for an Epox 8RDA+ (Revision 1.1), a Radeon 9500 for video and 512MB of Corsair TwinXL3200 (2x256). Chuck in a funky new case and PSU, and I'll have one mean beast.

As for my old machine? Well, I'm ripping out the hard drive, and possibly the CD-RW (haven't decided on that last one yet) and putting it/them in my new machine, and buying a second HDD and a DVD player and turning it into a Linux box, which will start out as a DVD/MP3 player and when I get around to it, a firewall/router as well. Talk about multitasking :).

Why did I post this? Because nothing else is happening on the boards, and I MIGHT make someone jealous :).

When I get the chance, I will upgrade my (actually build a) pc. I'm not sure exactly what I will have yet, but I have an idea.

    Pentium 4 - 2.8 Ghz

    1 - .5 Gb RAM

    GeForce 4 Ti 4600 or 4400

Sound Blaster Live (or some other 3D sound card)

120 Gb hard drive + 20Gb SCSI (for my commonly used games), and my current 40Gb hdd.

Got any suggestions? I hear that AMD Athlons are way better than Peniums, but, as far as the charts go, there are none that go as far as 2.8Ghz yet. Is that true or not? If it is not, then what is the fastest I can get/how to make it faster?

Well, Snowmane, I'd love to tell you, but the courts said I couldn't do that anymore...

xento, are YOU going to pay for all that, or is your daddy's credit card going to do it for you? Athlon has a different rating system to Pentium's - Athlon's don't run as fast, but they run better. My CPU runs at 1733, but is the equivalent of a P4 2.1 or better. If I overclock it, that number goes up, and Athlon's excel at overclocking.

Actually, Jar, my dad doesn't have a credit card and doesn't want one. I will have to go to mom for that, and I have all the money I need either owed to me by my "daddy", or in my bank account.

Thanks for the info BTW, Jar. I think I will go with the P4. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to them.

Dragoon, maybe you should start a campaign to "save all of the world's misquitoes". You could ask people to donate money, and then buy yourself a nice PC and say it is all for the cause. :D 8)

Sure it does. Look at http://www.savekaryn.com. "She" (I couldn't tell you whether or not she is a she... her pictures hide her face. Sinister....) claimed to have 20,000 in credit card debt and begged people to send her money. She got people to send in $13,323.08. What idiots.

    Now that is brilliant.
I mean i just need to make a crappy web-page to get a lot of money.
Now if i made 192 pages like that a year i would not need to work at all.

You know, I remember reading or hearing this story (might even have been on here) about this guy in the US who couldn't afford to go to college, so he spent what money he had on a huge fucking advertising campaign of sorts asking everyone to send him 25c. The postage for the money cost more than was sent, and some people also sent a note saying what a retard he was (along with the 25c) but he also got all the money he needed.
