    hi guys !

it's been years since i haven't played this game, couldn't remember why i have never finished it, played a bit and then : "mmhh i remember now, XP system really sucks :/" It's totally broken and unbalanced, it totally ruins all play styles that let other characters / creatures deal damage for you. What's the point in having tons of characteristics, skills, disciplines or spells to improve if you can't exceed level 20 because your friends deal much more damage than you ? Do you feel the same about this problem ?

So i searched the forum for hacks or modules that fixes this problem, but couldn't find any :/ is there a fix for this ? has someone already tried to make one ? (i can try to, i just need to learn how to hack and use a debugger :p)

ps : it's amazing to see all the work that has been done by fans on this game, congrats

No fix of this problem that I'm aware of.

I've personally never considered it much of a problem though. Suppose my playing style has always been massively geared towards killing things, meaning that I've sucked up most of the on-hit XP by myself.

I suppose you just have to consider it a challenge.

There are two solutions actually - you can either do all the quests you come by, thus advancing in levels for the quest exp, or you can edit the file where experience values are stored to suit that playing style better.

Actually, you should do it in that order, finish the game and then edit the level table so that for the amount of XP you get by the end (after hitting a fair amount of quests) you'd get to level 50 rather then, say, 30.

Alternatively, you could try pestering Crypton - he should be able to find the value by which damage XP is divided when dealt by followers and decrease it. Or simply remove the division altogether.

Dark Elf > I'm a bit tired of all mighty characters, I like the idea of killing my opponents with an army of arachnids or fire elementals :) too bad it's not rewarding at all :/

The_Bob > yes I thought of your solution, but that means combat become senseless, I mean IA is far from being great, and the whole fighting aspect of the game would become very annoying.

I think the XP calculation is very simple, but I don't know how arcanum has been written so it's just an idea : creatures have a XP value, when you hit them they lose x% of their life, so you gain x% of their XP value. But maybe you're right though.

Who is Crypton btw ? He would know how to proceed exactly ?

The_Bob -> Why me? I don't have time for this stuff anymore, so next time, please try to recommend somebody else, because I don't want to have a full pm box of requests that I don't have time for... thank you and have a nice day.

I meant that in way that I don't have time for helping others, especially to newcomers, and I didn't gave up on my project, I just can't work on it anymore, so I'm trying to bring it to stage where other developers could join... but thats off-topic, sorry for that.

dkby -> You better ask another member, I think that Elder Joachim aka Drog Black Tooth might be able to help you, but I don't know if he is still here... and if he have time for this too.

Crypton > well before bothering him as it seems he stopped the UAP project, I'll try myself first. I've always wanted to learn about cracking/hacking, so it's a good opportunity to start. I'll ask for help though if I'm really stuck.

And if I succeed in making a patch or a trainer I will post it on the forum.

    cheers

When you stop doing something because you can't balance it with the rest of your life, that still counts as giving it up.
