Missing Librarian - is main quest broken?

OK, I'm trying to fing the book written by terwilliger on the dark elves, and everyone keeps saying to go to the library, the book of course, is not there. In frustration I look up the walkthrough, and then searched the forum (frustration, heh, 30 secs of not knowing what to do) and it talks about some stinkin librarian. There is no librarian in my game, and I know I haven't killed her (him?). The only library is the one near the university right? Anyway, I patched the game before I stated playing it, so I don't know how this happened. I read all the books there a while ago, and there never has been a librarian.

My question is this, is it possible for me to continue on the good path in the main quest or not? I know I can find caladon (apparrently) by finding someone called stringy pete, but am I going to be able to get the book I need once I'm there without a quest trigger, without resorting to slaughter ( I'm a mage so no thieving without waking everyone up) and I want to stay on the good path ( 100 alignment). Is there anything I can do to either get that original book, or talk to the author in ashbury, or somehow get the librarian into the game, or in the long run will it not matter? that is, can I talk to the owner/wife of the book or whatever in ashbury and get it anyway despite not knowing they have it?

 

Sorry to reply to my own post, I meant of course, the auther/wife in Caladon, not ashbury, as I am unable to talk to the author in ashbury, never having obtained his book.

 

You said that you're patched, but are you running any mods that might be messing things up? (If you don't know what mods are, you most likely don't have any)

 

Nope, no mods, nothing, I haven't even put on the level cap remover... yet hehe.

Ok, I think I may just be able to dig up the graves in Caladon and take it from there.. is this right? just it's a long way off and I don't want to have to repeat it all if I can't.

It's a shame... I'm a real stickler for the storyline, can't stand to miss out on a single piece of dialouge/side quest. I usually do things the evil way just to try it out, then reload, because I play a good character.

Oh well, meh.

If the librarian isn't there then you'll just have to press on without. Force Caladon and dig the grave.

 

The libarian is a Gnomish female in dark clothing. On a dark monitor, other people have missed her. On a good monitor & video card, she is only a bit hard to see. She could and should be there. And there are flags that realy need to be set.
