    Where's Maximillian? (King Praetor's father or whatever) I want to have the ending where Cumbria doesn't wither away and die (it's depressing), and I need to know where to find the old geezer and how to convince him to come back...

    To get Max's location once you're on the Isle of Despair, so talk to the guy in the house to the left of the gates to the compound. Once you've accepted his quest, Max get's marked on your map.

    talk to maximilian and listen to his story
    he ask you then to find an old friend of him (witch is already death)in dernholm and tell him that maximilian is still alive
    after leaving the isle go to derholm and talk to noorian or how the girl is calles she s the daughter of maximilian s death friend
    i think that should solve youre problem
