Depends on whether you pronounce robot "robaat" or "robot".

Neither will give you the the desired result though. "robót" is more like it.

I've decided you can't teach someone how to say something by writing about it.

Not unless you know how to write and read phonetic characters.

*sighs* Sometimes phonetics are of little use...

I can read them. My inability to type them is what made my attempt so fallible.
You're essentially describing what could be called a median O in english. However, when I personally say boat, it doesn't sound like I'm using a W anywhere. I'm only pronouncing the O and the A. A better way to right it might be, "bote". That's exactly how I say boat.
Another word is Oh. That word has a long O sound, and the H merely extends the use of the vowel. The only real way to find this out is to hear it said. If I heard it, I could probably write an interpretation of it in english, while keeping the fidelity of the word's sound.

If you're still talking about my last name, try abort, but instead of the "rt" say a normal t, like in tree.

That's exactly what I described. It's probably just a loss in translation. I know it's very difficult to "adopt" the accent (and inflections) of another language, particularly when that language is Proper American English.
Though, i'm not about to deny any mistakes on my end. I'm still thinking of Bote. The T in bote (I'm not even sure if Bote is an English word) is pronounced like any other ending T. It's the last sound. The E is silent, as in same or game. I probably could have specified that earlier, but I was too busy thinking about what a good job I did trying to explain it.

I still think bote rhymes with boat, wrote, float and note, because that's the way I'd pronounce it. If you say it with the same sound as you say abort, lord, floor, more and shore, then we mean the same thing.

I seem to only be able to find words with "o-r" that pronounce the o correctly.

Just a hint, don't even try pronouncing my other last name. It's simply impossible to do in English.

I might, but my brother has our only microphone, so it'll have to happen tomorrow or something.

Oooo...this could be interesting. Too bad my last name is so easy to pronounce. Nine letters and only two syllables.

You don't happen to pass through Umeå on your way there? Coming to think of it, it's not impossible you'll go through places like Botsmark either... keep me informed!

Sjöblom... unless you know a Nordic language I think it's impossible to get it right. It doesn't sound anything like Shablom. :)
