[ooc] ok guys... here I go... my first own roleplay-thread.
This thread is about undead swarming the land bit by bit... all hope seems lost.
I'm kinda planning on making it a dramatic story... so if you want to help me, you're very welcome. I'll explaing more later when I have the time. For now, if you plan to be part of the story there are only two rules... for now you can't play the bad guy... if you want to you'll have to wait untill the story goes there. And the second rule... you can't have dark necromancy, since this magick caused the trouble the good-guys will be fighting[/ooc]

    {Date: Monday 14 March 1776}

I had assembled my relatives. My four uncles... my grandfather, who used to be a great warrior... an aunt, who was quite well trained in the ways of magick... my brother and my sister... both fine warriors... and my son. Many of my other relatives including my wife and parents had been killed... our family stood strong for now.

But great danger was lurking... something had awakened swarms of undead... and they were slowly overtaking the lands in Arcanum... for now, they were far enough from us... but they could get closer anytime now... We all feared for our lives.. but we knew something had to been done... eventhough the odds were against us 1000 against 1.

    I addressed my family......

[ooc] OK... so you now know the idea a bit... I'll work on it later... right now I've gotta split. You may take up the role of one of the relatives if you want to... but for now, I don't have big plans for them. If you do already feel like entering the story (which will probably make you a large character) just start as an outside character... I'll post again in a few hours.. PM me if you feel like the task[/ooc]

[ooc] Ok... more details and stuff: MY characters name is Ando Fysenlog and I'm a human. I'm quite a good swordsman and I fight with the sword of my late father (Leslo Fysenlog). Further on I know a few spells such as stonethrow but I'm not a devoted mage. My aunt is. Her name is Aries Nacone and she knows the art of white necromancy up to major healing and also knows her way with nature magick.
The only non-playable characters are my son and my grand-father... if you want the character role of anyone of the others feel free to PM me.[/ooc]
    {continuing from last post}

... "You all know why you're here... something needs to be done, but you all know we alone cannot do it. We might be a family of warriors, but this fact won't help against our foes since they are great in numbers.
We need to undertake action before the drift-aways find us and they report this to the undead..."
(Drift-aways were undead that were either send by someone or just "lost from the crowd". They were a great worry since they could reveal the location of humans or just charge them.)
"...so I've come up with an idea... it is dangerous but possible nonetheless.
If we want to contact people who might help us, we need to go to the city of Erlin close to Stillwater. There I have tried to contact people but I am not sure if they have recieved the message.
If we want to reach Erlin we will have to cross the river... but I am afraid that undead scouts have gotten hold of the bridge... there is another way however. If we go two days up, besides the river, there is an old crossing across the water... the undead may not have noticed this yet and this may very well be our only chance."
I looked at each one present in the room, awaiting their reaction. It was my grand-father who first spoke up.
"You know that this might cost us our lives... is it worth the risk??!"
"Yes grandfather" I answered "if we stay, we are sitting bait.. I'm not willing to just wait for something to happen.. we need to move... as soon as possible". Two of my uncles backed me up and soon the others followed.
My son was still silent but I knew he agreed no matter what. He probably wanted to get out just as much as I did.

As we got ready my aunt adressed me in private...
"You know what you are doing right?" She asked "I'm very worried.. as you might have noticed, about your sons well-being. If you think this is best for him I will not argue. But I'd hate to loose someone else after we have lost so many of our family"
I looked her straight into the eye and whispered: "Trust me Aunt Aries... If I had a safer plan I would have informed at least you. But this does not carry much danger in it if I have calculated our chances right."

We packed the things things we needed most and put the rest on a large pile.
One of my uncles set fire to it and for a moment we all watched our memories go to waste. The only thing we had left was eachother. But we had hope.

[ooc]ok people... I am now awaiting PM's or OOC's from people. Just one thing more... don't be a super-fighter mage or something else incredibly strong... we will "level-up in the progress of the story.[/ooc]

[ooc]ok maniac... awaiting you're character description... maybe you could PM me you're idea of a character.[/ooc]

    {Date: Monday 14 March... 11:00 pm.}

We had been walking for quite a while now and I noticed my son Ternol getting tired. He was still a young boy, 14 years of age. But he was very willing to experience combat. I always said he was not old enough, but deep down inside I defenitely remembered at what age my father first trained me.
But I was too concerned. Ternol was ill. He had a disease which made it dangerous for him to get into trouble as this could cause serious problems to his health.

I really wanted to take him to Erlin as there was a doctore there who could help out.

But a year ago our family was torn apart. My wife and parents were brutally murdered in front of my eyes. I was too late to make a difference, but I killed the undead bastards nontheless.
When I went to my uncle with my son I heard that his wife and children also lost their lives. And many others from our family also paid with their lives.

My aunt said something to me but I was to deep away in thoughts that I didn't notice what she said. She then clapped in her hands in front of my face and got my attention...
"Which road should we take Ando!!!!" she nearly yelled in my ear.
I thought for a minute and said: "the left one". And we continued onwards

    {Date: Thursday 16 March. 14:30 pm. (2:30 in the afternoon)}

We finally arrrived at the place where we could cross the water. There was a huge tree lying over the water which provided access to the other side. I led my aunt and my son over the log and then my brother and sister went over.

But as soon as the rest of the party set foot on the log... 10 ghouls appeared behind them.
Because the tree was not wide enough only a single man could stand on it. One by one my uncles got on, fighting their way on.
But suddenly out of nowhere a strong undead fighter appeared behind my Grand-father stabbing him in his back. I saw it all happen before my eyes.
As I watched my grand-father fall on his knees and being killed by the remaining undead, I fell into the sand, sending a loud scream of agony over the water. My last remaining uncle at the other side fought his way onto the log. Then he carefully walked backwards, hacking away at a ghoul that was right at his tail.
My uncle Kilgen Cragoun shot five arrows accross the water killing the undead who caused my grand-fathers dead as another one of my uncles cut down the tree as soon as my last uncle was over. I shouted at the remaining undead, but one of my uncles pulled me away from the seen.

My son, my brother and my sister all looked at the happening in disbelief. Grand-father wasn't supposed to die yet... it wasn't his time. But there was nothing more we could do for him. He had been a great warrior for a long time and we would remember him for his wiseness and skill.

After a while of fast running we noticed the far oustkirts of Erlin.
Our journy had just begone... but already another life had been lost... lost to the march of the undead.

[ooc] ok, so there's why you couldn't play my grand-father. If you still want to pick up my brother, my sister, my aunt or one of my uncles you may. I already given one of my uncles a name and my auntie, but the I left the rest open so people could think up names for them-selves.
Alright.. I still need some people so come on folks[/ooc]

We made it to the city-walls safely. When we arrived there the guards asked us for our business but one of them noticed one of my uncles and mumbled to the other: "they're ok. I know that one over there... he served the barron for a while".
I overheard them talking and thought about the past again.

My uncle Kilgen served the local Barron some years ago, when he had some trouble with thieves stealing his crops. The Barron was short on money then and this might just be the time to pay him a visit... we could use this gold very much.

The guards let us through the gates and closed them firmly behind us again.

The people in Erlin knew a bit about the upcoming threat, but many of them just thought it was a hoax, or just a dumb prank.
We had promised to each other not to cause any distubance so we would keep our meetings silent.

For now we would head for the Hardian Tavern... where we would meet up with people that might be able to help us.

[ooc] ok Maniac... your turn... you are probably one of the people we would meet, or just a stranger overhearing the conversation or so... I'm now very much awaiting your post!!! see you there! [/ooc]

    My character:

    Name: Fenrir Ahnon
    Gender: male
    Race: elf
Apearance: pale skin, long silver white hair, a slim frame, tall.
Skills: a very powerful (but not too much) magician. Also aprentice melee and master dodge should his spells fail. (won't say the details, more fun that way :) . Don't worry no dark necromancy).
Inventory: black cloak (probably magickal...), a black demonhide leather armor, black leather boots, black pants, two rings (one on each hand, both silver, one with a black diamond, other with a black pearl, enchanted), a black/white staff with a red orb on top, a short mithril sword. Familiar (summoned with a scroll).

    Familiar:
Name/race: Raven (a bird not the elf lady :) )
No fighting ability. Can communicate with Fenrir. Can create weak illusions.

    My post:
I was sitting by the counter enjoying my brandy when a group of adventurers entered the tavern. I felt they were worried. They sat down near me and I listened to their talk. They were talking about the undead hordes. I slowly walked up and sat by them with Raven on my shoulder.
"You don't even imagine with what you're dealing people...but I see you're determined and brave so I guess you have a chance...a very slim chance...so I will help you." they were still confused. I sat still waiting for their reply.

    [OOC]
My char. will be a powerful one but don't worry it'll be just right for such a hard fight. I hope more people join this thread because it'll be boring with only two of us.

[OOC]Okay, guess I'll join in, seems like it could be good fun and action.[/OOC]

    Name: Weralin
    Gender: Male
    Race: Half-elf
Appearance: Dark and shifty. Lost his tongue when captured by a group of undead before escaping. Hates them with a passion.
Skills: An excellent marksman and tracker, he can is an accomplished sneaker and trap spotter/disarmer. Has been around, so there's very little that surprises him and that he hasn't seen.

I sat in the darkness, my bow unstrung in my lap, and a quiver of my favourite arrows on my back. If need be, I could string my bow and be firing in under 10 seconds. I listened to the group of close-knit adventurers, who could possibly be a family, unusual as it was, talking, and overheard the stranger's offer of help. From the sound of it, they'd need my help as well, and I never missed a chance to hunt undead. I also figured that they would be more impressed by action than words.

I continued to eat and drink and silence. I decided to follow them quietly, and help them when needed. That would be far better than walking up to them and just offering help. I was no good with words anyway...and having a tongue helped as well I suppose...

[ooc] ok guys... ready to go then. Fenrir (maniac)... I suppose we'll find out what you're powers are on the way.... I don't know for sure if master dodge is a good idea... maybe axpert should already do the trick... you can always become a master later then. So you're not very powerfull... that's good. Idea of the bird is nice aswell... good thing to have as a sort of scout. Good to see you here anyways.

Weralin (Jarinor)... good to see you here aswell. hmmm a passionate undead slayer... nice. And one that doesn't talk too much... hehe nice go Jarinor. I like shady characters... but it's going to take some nice writing to get the introduction ready since you can't really say you want to team up with us. Anyways... I can always use two archers... but remember that my uncle kilgen Cragoun is a senior one... maybe you could even learn something from him in the story.[/ooc]

...We entered the tavern. my uncle Kilgen (who I usually called by just his first name anyway) had been here quite a lot and some people immediately noticed him as a familiar appearence. Kilgen nodded greetings towards them but we didn;t have time to stay and chatter. We were off to a table in the back of the tavern. There four people sat silent... doing nothing besides drinking then being deep in thought.

I approached them and sat at the other end of the table. I looked around but the only one close to this table was a single man... I didn't expect much interferance from him. The rest of my family also set down besides me. I quickly informed the four men of the situation. I started off,
"Perhaps you know the reason why you're here and perhaps you don't, but here's the thing. Undead are close by... lots of them. We will need a sort of army if we would stand a chance against them but there is no such army so I guess for now it's up to us to slow them down.
If the locals get word of all this they might panic so keep your thoughts to yourselves in public.
To make things clear we frankly need your help. Alone we won't stand a chance and you lot are reckoned to be warriors. We can use anyone of you so if you are interested in a lot of good fights team up with us. (I had pictured the situation nicer than it really was... but this was nescecerry because if I hadn't I was sure nobody would be interested).
I looked at the men who started to look at each other and by the looks of them they were very eager for adventure.

Suddenly a man stepped towards us.

"You don't even imagine with what you're dealing people...but I see you're determined and brave so I guess you have a chance...a very slim chance...so I will help you." He said.

The four men were startled and the rest of my familly looked at him in disbelief. He didn't know that we very well knew what was going on but that we were trying to get people to join us this way.
I gave a shallow smile to the four men who had lost their interest a bit.

I stood up and led the 'intruder' to a corner. I spoke to him:
"Listen my good man... if you are eager to help I might give you this oppurtunity, but don't tell these men this... I want them to join us with a good morale... don't frighten them off...
You are right about them not knowing the situation... let's keep it that way shall we. But me and my relatives over there very well do... There are swarms of undead... we alone don't stand a chance of stopping them but every warrior who feels like incresing the odds a slight bit is very welcome.
Now if you are a good fighter a fine mage or anything you may join us.. but under one condition... do not inform every single men about our situation.... they will loose their morale and maybe even run off."

My aunt had taken over my short speech and somehow she had won back the interest of the four men.

I looked to the man again... "Your help is still accapted if I didn't scare you off. So what so you say?!"

[ooc] ok maniac... you're turn again... Now to recrute more regulars to help the story get better and exciting.... off I go.
Jarinor you could write something about observing the scene and thinking about the past... I'd love to read exactly how much! you hate undead [/ooc]

"No, you don't know what you're dealing with...because you know of the swarm doesn't mean you know everything...and I do not believe we would need WARRIORS who would be scared away from just hearing about the hordes because when they see the hordes they'll surely flee. And I advice you take me...I know much more than you think...My name is Fenrir Ahnon. I'm one of the oldest wizards in Arcanum although I look like a young elf. I think first we should go to Tulla and seek aid of the magician council. They're arrogant but not stupid."

I looked at this man who had just introduced himself as Fenrir Ahnon. He was right... I could feel this... I knew how right he was about the warriors, but they could be of some use to us still.
"Alright" I whispered to Fenrir, "I'll inform them of our true situation. If some of them still feel like the job, they have then proven to have some guts... and that's pretty vital." I waited a while before continuing and gestured to my aunt that she had to wait a while and I continued to Fenrir.
" So you are an expert on the field of the undead. This is nice to have, but untill I am certain about you keep a bit lower than you are now."

I informed the four 'warriors' about our real situation and without second thought three of them stood up, thanked us and left. "Too bad" I thought to myself... but it would not make a difference if they would leave here now or later on the battle-field. The one man still sitting was a man around 30 years of age. His appearance was as if he'd seen many battles before. a scar ran from his right ear down... nearly to his chin. He wielded a throwing weapon and had a short sword strapped on his back.
This man was very determened. Even after he heard about our odds.

Fenrir asked me if he could explain some more about undead. I granted him this.

[ooc] ok. soon after maniac's done... we'll go to the baron first to collect some money (maybe even under threat). After that we will probably follow Fenrir's plan but the story might turn so who knows. When we go to the baron's house I suggest that Jarinors char. follows us and we team up just before entering the barrons mansion. see you all again [/ooc]

"The undead hordes were created by a powerful demon necromancer Nitorh. He was able to do that because he got ahold of a powerful artifact. Now don't get careless, the zombies and skeletons are just weakest of his troops although they're powerful in numbers. But we'll have to face demons, undead(bone) dragons , vampires and such. If you ever soon meet Nitorh or one of his generals - run. You aren't ready for such a fight. I'm not sure I am. I know even more. I know the master of Nitorh and his affairs but that's none of your concern. I think I told you all you need to know..."

    [OOC]
I hope I didn't ruin your story Noth if so then tell me and I'll edit it.
I also suggest that we don't rush things and wait for more people to join (two more at least) because if we'll write more there'll be less who will be interested in reading it just to join.

    NEW ADDITION !!!!

[/ooc] damnit i wanted to play the grandad ! ,:'speak up sonny ! i cant hear ya ! ' [ooc]

    Name : Leang Lightfinger
    Race : Half - elf
    Gender : Male
Appearance : Tall and moderately tanned , slim but not skinny , not someone you'd notice in a crowd . Good PR skills .
Skills : A proffesional thief and mercenary assasin , excels in pickpocketing , lockpicking , stealth , and many other criminal activities .
Also occasionaly indulges in Melee fighting with his Longword , but prefers his (only expert skill for both weps ) bow and arrow , as you cant creep to well in chain mail and leather isnt tough enough to take a blow from an axe .

I had been playing my trade in Erlin for some time now , and new faces around town meant new coins in my pocket .

Sitting on the bar having a nicely aged wine , i noticed a few adventurers coming in the door , silently filing in and arranging themselves quietly at a table . I decided to let them carry their own coins , sorry as i was . I had a feeling that if i tried anything on them , i'd be even sorrier than i was now .

I kept myself attentive , hanging on to every word i heard drifting from that table . A strange man with a bird had approached them , and he seemed much more of an imposing figure standing up then sitting down . He spoke with force in his voice , yet he was gentle enough not to be thought violent . I on the other hand , thought him a loony  . I heard talk of the pillaging , deaths , and most of all undead coming from the party of adventurers . "So this is true ! " , i thought to myself . An equation instantly formed in my mind , probably the result of being a bandit for years . It was so : Adventure --> Killing/Razing/Pillaging --> Loot from corpses/Areas --> Money ! The criminal mind worked fast when presented with an opportunity .

Rising from my seat , i bowed to the assembled party , and presented myself to them as Leang Lytefinger , Seasoned Adventurer of the East .
A little PR lessons always came in handy . It wasn't entirely untrue . I had roamed the eastern areas of Arcanum some time ago , only just deciding to see the other side of the continent .

" Might i enquire as to your businness here , gentlemen ? I was wondering if i could join your merry band . I assure you , my skills would come in handy if the need arises , and i think it will , soon . "

[ooc] no it's fine Slagger... just don't rush the story untill me and the others are given a slight start up. Thanx for joining the 'drama' btw. [/ooc]

I looked at this newly approached stranger. He was a very normal looking half-elf, but there was something about him not quite right. I turned around and faced this man. I gave him the 'whatsyourbussinesshere!' look and asked him in a faked friendly voice "my good man, why is it that you are so interested in joining up with us?! If you overheard us you might have an idea on what we're up to. If not, this man here {I pointed towards Fenrir} will be glad to give you the details if you wish.
But where are my manners anyway." I shaked Fenrir's hand and the hand this stranger named Leang. "My name" I said "is Ando Fysenlog. I am a veteran fighter from across the river. These people here are my relatives except for this man here" {pointing towards the warrior who didn't leave with the others} I asked Fenrir to take this half-elf to a separate part of the tavern and try to scare him off. Fenrir did so and soon I noticed Fenrir giving this new stranger a short speech. The man however did not change his mind but he just stepped towards me asking me "what's the pay?!".

I looked at him firmly... "the pay my dear man, is adventure, killing undead and all that. For now, if you want to join, you'll live with us, eat with us and fight with us... that's the pay."

    I awaited his reaction

[OOC]I edited my last post A BIT. Also I think I might know everything but won't reveal it and so you still might uncover it yourselves. OK? You might PM me some details if you want.
    [OOC]

Another man wanted to join the group. I felt he had a dark soul but I didn't think he was working for Nitorh. He was brave enough to join us even when I told him the scary details.

Fenrir looked a bit suspicious towards this new stranger but his face changed again soon.
I added this to my pervious summing up of payments "and ofcourse... another pay for you... is that you may get some of the loot from the enemies we will vanguish... now this did catch the interest of Leang.

"Yes... I'd be most glad to help out.." Leang said. I smiled and told everyone that we had better get some rest.
They all left for their rooms above the tavern where the Inn was located. I payd the Inkeeper right after I asked my aunt if she could stay back a while.

"Aunt Aries" I said "what do you think?! Are these men to be trusted??"
"Maybe... she replied... I'm still a little curious about the two who joined freely. The other warrior just seems eager for action, but those two.. the one with the knowledge of undead seems a bit bossy... I don't like bossy, but I suppose if he's been around I might get used to him... but the other one seems to have a great interest in cash.... it might exceed his lust for battle even. I don't know about him, but if he proves usefull, he can stay."

I nodded to my aunt. I always trusted her advice on virtually anithing. Her and me almost always had the same opinion and thus we could get along very very good.

I said to her that she should get some rest now and when she left through the door towards the Inn I looked around the tavern... only a few people were still sitting there. In a corner a man quitely drank his ale and further more there were some friends of eachother laughing there evening off.

I went up to my sons room and entered. He was already in his bed and smiled at me when I looked at him. I returned him his smile.
"Father... I'm affraid... affraid that you and the others will suffer the same fate Grand-father did." he said.
"Don't worry Ternol... we're a tough bunch... don't worry about us, just leave the worrying to me. Tomorrow we will visit the doctor and you'll be just fine.
I will have to leave you there but I suppose you understand the nescecerity of that." he nodded in understanding.
I kissed him goodnight in his forehead and said "'till tomorrow then". He smiled and I left to my room. It took me a long time to fall asleep as I thought about the happenings of the past days... but I managed.

I'd like to join you when you leave the village. Can you enter some woods and find a burned-out shack? I intend to have been hiding out in the woods because of certain... reasons. I have been attacked by undead and fled into the tree tops.

Name: Marie, unknown surname. Affectionately known as Kitty
    Age: 17
    Race: Human-Feline cross
    Gender: Female

Appearance: Appears mostly human. Shoulder-length soft, golden hair hanging loose. Green eyes. Sleek, well-endowed, but well-deveoped in a feminine way. Golden-brown skin - appears lightly tanned. She has a long, fluffy, golden, leopard-spotted tail and leopard-spotted cats' ears (instead of human ears). She is extremely cute and very pretty.

She is fairly strong due to dense feline musculature (but doesn't appear very muscular). Also very agile and has excellent eyesight, hearing and smell.

Demeanor: Shy, but very affectionate. Quite physical due to feline nature and likes to cuddle people. Tends to be happy and 'bouncy' and purrs a lot, but does frighten fairly easily and gets nervous and skittish. However, she is a naturally good fighter and fast. Has a love of nature and the wild and gets on wells with all forms of wildlife. She can talk to other felines. Also very intelligent.

Background: Farther and mother were both human. When her mother was pregnant, her father was killed by a powerful dark mage and her mother was transformed into a big cat (kind of a cross between a leopard, a jaguar and a cheetah). Her mother died soon after giving birth to her and she took the name Marie because the last thing she remembers her mother saying to her was purring affectionately (Mrrrrrrrr) and rubbing her nose against hers.

Current Situation: She was raised in seclusion by her mother's sister, who took care of her mother when she was a cat. Her aunt died a few years back when her shack burned down and she has lived in the wild ever since. She now lives in the tree-tops

Statistics: As I mentioned, she is naturally strong due to her feline musculature. She has made a rough short-bow and learned to use it effectively for hunting. She also has a high dodge and is good at close combat due to good reflexes and her instincts, but has only ever used a magickal hunting dagger, which was her late aunt's late husbands'.

I watched as the group of adventurers, who had picked up a few extras, left the tavern. I thought about how to best approach them. Following seemed like a good idea, but could give off the wrong impression, and get me roasted. I'd heard them mention visiting the Baron. Perhaps I could get ahead of them and meet them there.

While these people were undoubtedly skilled fighters, I knew this town and it's surrounding areas like the back of the hand...which was pretty much how familiar I was with most of the major areas of Arcanum. Tarant, Caladon, Ashbury and more, I knew them all. I left a few coins, nodded to the bartender, gave the serving wench a friendly pinch on the butt and left.

As I loped through the woods to the Baron's house, I thought about these hordes of undead, and what had led me to style myself as a hunter of the undead.

I'd been riding through the woods, when a figure had appeared in front of me on the path. I didn't need to speak to him or use magick to know that it was totally and utterly evil. I'd spun the horse around to gallop off when another figure had leapt from a tree above, knocking me off my horse (hey, they're undead, they don't feel pain or care about injury). I'd blacked out. When I woke up, it was in a dark room. I was tied down on my back, the room lit by red candles. A foul odour hung in the room, no doubt supplied by the dark being who had blocked my path, and now stood at my feet.

Seeing me awake, he walked around behind my head. I felt his breath on my face, in my hair, all over my head. It was foul. I shuddered to think what he'd eaten to give him that bad breath.

"Welcome," it had half spoken, half hissed, not unlike a snake. "You are lucky - you are one of the chosssen."

    "Chosen?"

"Yesss, chosssen. My master wishesss for a new breed - his other servants suffice for now, but he wishesss to have a new type of servant." It laughed, in it's own manner. I'd just felt an icy cold wave of fear was all over and around me.

The thing had motioned, and it's servants stepped forward. Prying open my mouth, they had grabbed my tongue. I did my best to bite their hands, and clamp my jaws, but they were too strong. The knife was sharp and quick, but the pain spread like wildfire. So did fire from my body. I'd never had much patience with the ways of magick, but it was in my blood, being a half-elf and all. I'd appreciated that blood then, as it had allowed me to manifest my pain and fear into magick - it cut my bonds, slew my enemies, and allowed me to escape...but it didn't heal my tongue.

I didn't really remember how I'd found my way back to town, but I did remember all the times I'd hunted and killed the undead. I shook myself out of my reverie as I continued along the path to the Baron's dwelling.

[OOC]If the grammar for the recollection seems a little out of whack, then it is. It's hard keeping track of that stuff. Also, slagger, you're character seems a lot like mine. Why is everyone an archer :)?[/OOC]
