What would you think on receiving 4+ exclamation marks in a message from the same sex?

Okay I'll take a different tact. Birthday cards. Does no one put a fair few exclamation marks in birthday cards? Somehow I just don't feel the same level of love with "Happy birthday. Have a great day." as I do with "Happy birthday! Have a great day!"; at the very least someone has exerted that extra amount of effort to put a line above the dot than just leave it blank.

    I take punctuation literally.

One exclamation mark is shouting. Perhaps suitable for birthdays.

Extra exclamation marks is screaming. Unacceptable. UNACCEPTABLE!

I used to have a policy of never using exclamation marks, but now I occasionally do. Mainly when I'm mocking someone else's way of speaking or writing. Generally I consider them to be a sign of immaturity, frivolity, over-excitability, self-importance, lack of subtlety, or being American.

In short, the use of exclamation marks embodies everything I despise in a human being!

Well some may call the over use of exclamation marks as a topic of discussion frivolous!

I, however, take the matter very seriously.

I think of Frosty the Snow Man when I see "Happy Birthday!" written out as I just have. Upon reflection, I think he's saying that to himself. What a narcissist.
