Yes, I am making a Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne Arcanum RPG/map, and I have a question:
How can I export models from Arcanum to put them into my map?

    Thank you :)

P.S. If anyone else on the boards make maps for Warcraft then you're welcome to work on it with me :)

Does Warcraft III use .art files?
If not, then the answer is no.

    It uses .mdx files =/

So there's no way to convert them??

You can convert .art files to .bmp files, if you can take it from there it might be possible. :)

Well .bmp does work with Warcraft - it's the file for the skins of the all the things.

Models are .mdx, skins are .blp

Well - you could always take an item from Arcanum, rename the extention, add it to the scenery/critters/etc list, then see if Warcraft's WorldEd will recognize it.

So far I've never had any luck, but I haven't tried any Warcraft stuff yet.

Wouldn't stuff from Arcanum look really, really awkward pasted on to a WC3 map? Just curious.

I just took a look at some screen-shots for Warcraft and the viewing angles are hopelessly wrong for adding anything from Arcanum.

I must have been looking at the wrong screen-shots then.
90 some-odd percent of everything I saw was either straight on (slight angle) or top down and at a distance.

It's third-person view looking from above, just like Arcanum

The first two are from World of Warcraft.

The third is from W3, but it uses 3D, so any attempt to import Arcanum gfx is doomed.

It's not a top down. It's an almost-3D system. Don't you know that if you use the mousewheel the camera pans in? If not, please don't make an Arcanum map.

Otherwise, you're better off either making custom unit models, using regular unit models that slightly resemble Arcanum, or scrapping the idea.

If you have never successfully utilized the WorldEditor, please scrap the idea until you have. You need to start small with that thing.

Why do you want me to scrap the idea so badly???

And btw, I've been world editing for years...

Warcraft III has a very good collective memory: Once a map has been burnt-out or deemed to suck, people won't play anything like it even when it's been so long nobody can possibly remember. It's odd how it works out, but it's true.

So you only get one shot. >:-(
