When i return to Tarant after having completed all the Quests in Quintarra the game slows down to almost nothing when i move around in the city. This is VERY annoying because i need to talk to bates to get ahead in the main plot. What can i do about this? and is it a well known bug?

The game significantly slows down in certain locations. Unfortunately, nothing can be done about this. It doesn't depend on how fast your PC is.

    yeah it does?

hmm ive never had an actual slowdown.

i mean yeah the game loads for 5-10 seconds every once in a while.. but with my system.. ive never had it actually just get really really slow action.

maybe your system isn't high enough.. or your graphics card can't hold all that stuff at once and returns by logging up your system.

referr to my post in general (rev/cleaning your system) it will make your comp best possible for the game.

    peace

It depends on what you mean by slowdown. If the little pocketwatch keeps appearing in the upper right-hand corner every few steps you take, you can try disabling the debug mode in DirectSound. I saw this fix posted over at the Sierra Arcanum forums and it worked pretty well for me.

You have to download a little utility that lets you mess around w/the DirectX settings in order to disable debugging though. I'll post up a link a little bit later, unless someone beats me to it.

If it's just a general type slowdown because it's just a big city, and there's alot of activity on the screen, then I don't think there's much you can do about it. Except maybe upgrade some components in your computer.

    Here's that link:

    http://www.gamevoiceclub.com/Download/dxapplet.zip

Unzip that into your Windows/System directory. Then go to Start --> Control Panel --> Settings. Click on the "Direct X" applet. Click on the Direct Sound tab, and move the little slider all the way to the left.

It helpled me w/the stuttering problem, and seemed to make the game run a little smoother.

Thanks go out to vesselle over at the Sierra Arcanum boards for posting that up.

    Hope that helps!

I also have such slowdowns (the ones w/o clock icon). I heard they happen no matter how powerful your machine is. Just a bug. It's supposed to be fixed in 1067 but I can't say it worked for me.
