I'm level 31. I got Virgil, Magnus, and Chukka in my party. I finally got around to going to the huanted castle in Ashbury. On the 2nd floor we're killing undead and Magnus and Chukka are saying they don't like me as much and may leave. What gives? I left and went to Still water and sved the hedgewizard and killed the ogre and they said it again. Magnus reaction is down to 27, chukka 32. I got 100good on alignment. I'm fixinf to get mad enough and shave off the dwarf's beard!! :x

    Magnus the Terrible

It is a Magnus problem, he gets pissed off at anything you kill, replace him with a follower with some slight form of skill. Dante might be a good follower for the point in the game you seem to be at.

I've already got King Praetor's taxes, so Dante can't join. Any other suggestions for replacing Magnus? Or Chukka? I'd miss them in a fight since I'm up to level 34 now and they're both good at melee and very strong. Will Magnus leave if I keep fighting monsters even if they're evil??

Did you attack those monsters when they didn't see you yet and their reaction is still neutral? Maybe you should only attack when they attack you, untill Magnus's reaction grows better. Don't know why but I didn't have this kind of problem except for killing Ashbury pigs and random citizens

Magnus is picky and useless, and chukka is slow and useless, I threw 'em both outta my party eventually and replaced them with robots. Only character that never seems to complain is a good Automaton, and that wonderful, overly powerful dog :D gotta love that dog...only wish they could hold my stuff for me...then I wouldn't need anyone else. Oh! but I do find geoffry and the Derian Ka warrior to be very entertaining followers! :D

What do you all have against Magnus? He's quite useful for tech players with his feather weight axes, a skeleto key, optic device and of course his gauntlets. So he's a softie, big deal :D Besides, there aren't many followers who you can take so early and let them grow to a high enough level.

I started disliking Magnus when his reaction dropped and he threatened to abandon me in Kree because I threw a Molotov cocktail into a crowd of barbarians who had swarmed around us and were proceeding to beat the snot out of Virgil. It seems there's ONE barbarian in Kree with a good alignment (the woman with the staff I suspect) and if you hurt her before she kills half your followers Magnus thinks you're overreacting. Honestly, I wasn't even PLANNING on stealing their stupid idol, but after a welcome like that I'm definitely shipping it off to Tarant to get melted down.

There's just no pleasing that bloody annoying little runt. You can never fight when you really need to because of him. Kree and the Bangellian Deeps immediately come to mind.... No Auto Skeleton key is worth this hassle. Anyway, his gauntlets only give bonuses to dwarves, unless they plain just don't like me specifically. Dwarves. Pfft.

Umm I never bothered with Kree idol so I didn't know that. THe gauntlets give bonus to dwarves that's right, but I like dwarves, they're the best techs. By the way, if I throw away Magnus, who do I replace him with? Who can be a good high level company for a tech gunslinger?

    Ya want followers!?

You want good followers?? Ok, as you have 100 alignment... go to the Bangellian Deeps and pick the great Bangellian Scourge, then use it for a while, in a few fights you alignment will be -100, so recruit Geoffrey Tarellond-Ashe and Torian Kel, they're the best, and way better than Magnus, and not wussies as Chukka.

    Bangellian Deeps: 1180W, 289S.

I really don't want to have to get rid of Magnus or have him leave since I've had him so long and he is the same level as my character, (level 34). I've invested a lot of time into him and Virgil and now after many level ups, Chukka. All of a sudden Magnus and Chukka started complaining every time I kill something. And since I'm 100 good alignment, i make sure the enemies are evil or react with hatred before I jump on them. I'm getting frustrated with Arcanum in that I've invested all this time and gold into my party members in weapons, equipment, armor, healing them, etc.... for them to just leave because that's the way they were programmed. I kinda feel like I'm being punished in a way. (Oh, No! You killed a lich! I'm leaving! ) It's bull!! If that's the way the good followers are, what's it like playing an evil character??? Maybe if I take Magnus and Chukka to Madam Lil's in Tarant, they might want to stay. I'm just fed up. I don't want to see all my hard work go down the tubes and basically have to start over with some new follower who's 20 levels below me. :x

Leaving should not be a problem

Having them leave should not be a problem. First off, you can take their stuff back. Second, there is dialogue that involves giving them special items that will raise their friendliness.
A last ditch effort is to get them killed then use scrolls of resurection. Bringing someone back from the dead makes them want to be your best friend ever.

Re: Leaving should not be a problem

I haven't tried that with every follower, but for the ones I have tried, only Dog raised his reaction towards me. Virgil, Magnus, Raven, Sebastian, and whatever other flunky I've had, never changed. If their reaction is already over a certain point does it not raise further because you've resurrected them?

(Did that make sense? I need a Dr. Pepper fix....)
