I've had the same question, but with Dante. From what I can gather, when your followers reaction is below 20 there appears a conversation option where you can ask them whats wrong. Different followers then have different things you can give them to make them happy again. Magnus likes Dwarven Snuff. I can't find what Dante likes.

I haven't had a chance to test this as I can't get them to like me less than 30.

If there's another way to keep them happy, I'm also interested to hear it.

To get them below 20 force attack another follower. I think Dante will only attack you at -1000 reaction. I'm trying to make a list of what followers like here's what I have.
    Jayna-sweet cakes
    Gar-earl gray tea
    Magnus-Dwarven snuff
    Virgil-dialouge optipion
    Sogg-wine
    Dog-kill then resurrect

Wear barbarian clothes or Dread Armor. It lowers reaction, often enough for the treat level to kick in.

Waromon, Puriana Lizard Chow. But there is none in the game. :D

however, if u put barbarian clothes or dread armor on ur follower while u wear a robe or something like this, his reaction goes up

Another option is using a fate point to force a good reaction next time you speak to someone.
