Magnus not pulling his weight/NPC Development questions

I'm level 14 and Magnus is lvl 13. We've levelled quite a few times since he joined but he's still only got balanced sword and trap springer. His thief skills hasn't improved either. This is all very disappointing considering those are the reason I want him in my party.

So the question is, will he learn schematics/thieving soon or do I need to find a replacement?

 

Where did you get the idea that Magnus was a thief?

He's a fighter pure and simple, with the ability to eventually make up to level 4 mechanical and level 4 smithy items, although I don't know at which levels the various tech levels become available.

I'm guessing that because there are 8 schematics that he eventually learns, then you'll get access to a new one every 6 levels or so. In which case, you'll get the next one at about level 18.

Don't be too impatient though, as by the sound of your levels, you've only just started and have a long way to go yet. Stick with Magnus, as although he can sound annoying, and hates you attacking anything, whilst he merrily hacks his way through the local populous of friendly towns :wink: , he is a good fighter, and well worth having in your party.

 

Unfortunately your followers won't advance further thanup to 4th schematic int their disciplines. An easy way to improve it is by editing their levelling schemes (sometimes they locate their points in an utterly dumb manner). You can call it cheating I guess but if you're interested there's an instructionat T-A.

 

NPCs don't go further than the 4th schematic?

Can the NPCs gain in mastery to their skills except with an Educator PC and those who come with masteries (like some thieves)?

 

no they don't advance the rank only the number of bars unless you have educator (and the best they can do then is expert) or if they come with it unless you want to use a savegame editor

 

Dog becomes a Melee Apprentice, Expert, and Master on his own. I think he's the only follower that can self-train.

Aside from certain followers (like already mentioned Dog) they don't even become apprentices. And they won't become masters even with educator background - remember, that background only give them one rank below you.

 

Some followers come with training. I believe both Raven & the lizzard archer Woromon, are or become expert.
