Okay so quick question for another harebrained character idea I have; are grenades and planted explosives like dynamite affected by magical aptitude? Because I know magical aptitude affects the chance to critically fail with conventional technological weapons, but I was unsure if grenades were classed properly as a weapon or not? And when I say magical aptitude I mean that I would design this character so it achieved an MA of 100. I did run a search and this topic seemed to suggest grenades were exempt from aptitude effects, but they never did reach a definitive answer. As a side note what about throwing any technological item? Because I imagine that some day when I'm feeling bored I'll design a master thrower who pelts people to death with automatons and it's always good fun to throw a bit of magic into the mix. Does anyone ever feel like throwing down an automaton feels like releasing a pokémon from its pokéball ("Automaton, I choose you!") or is that just me? Anyway, thanks in advance for your help.
Yes. Grenades are exempt from the magick penalty. Combining throwing + exlosives in a mage is pretty devestating. Also, another technomage idea is using automatons or arachnids in conjunction with buff spells (like Hasten and Tempus Fugit). If you want to throw away your scruples, I recommend automatons for meta-abuse and super-mega-meta-abuse as the most economical and accomodating of test subjects.
Cool! Thanks for your reply, the character I'm wanting to make will be the ultimate saboteur - having both the magical means (Disintergrate, Fireflash) as well as the technological means (the ability to make any thrown or planted explosive with the use of manuals) to blow everything to pieces! Also spells like Invisibility and Paralysis will help me have more fun tormenting people; I thought a good cruel and unusual method of killing someone would be to first paralyse them, then cover each tile around them with plastique, then send them to the moon! And also yes I'm well aware of the awesomeness of using mechanical arachnids and automatons with the likes of Tempus Fugit, see this link!
